    Old comp question:

Could someone tell me who compiled the 2 "Who the f#%k knows" comps? Something is telling me it was Swish, but then I was thinking it might've been Rae? I thought I had a file detailing what I have & who I got it from, but I guess not. I took a look over at Davey's current incarnation of Comp-4-Trade & didn't see it, which doesn't mean it wasn't there--and beaucoup kudos to him for maintaining that. I'm currently loading this stuff into ITunes with the thought in mind that I might actually be able to listen to them properly--some for the first time! Most of 'em, though, I did get the chance to at least sample properly. Boy, we had something going there for awhile back around 2001, didn't we? I'm sorry, I remain greatly impressed with what this community of music lovers did to introduce complete & far-flung strangers to music--and that includes some people who some other people don't like. I'm poking through this stuff, and all I have to say is, "Holy Crap."

    I don't like others.

    Sorry I can't help you

But yeah, I remember them daze...that really was something special we had going for a year or so; the exchange of ideas and music was really incredible and the generosity we showed one another was also, incredible. Its why I hang around, even though musically speaking, I'm out of the loop when it comes to modern music.

So why don't we do it again? Everyone can put together one disk of an excentric mix of tunes that they enjoy, and let's trade 'em around. I'm in in anyone else is interested, and I promise to keep the prog tunes to a minimum (of course, any one prog tune will take up half the CD!).

I'd be in. I've been meaning to put together a compilation of some good upbeat tunes for the gym, but I keep putting it off. This just might be the incentive that I need.

Well, technically speaking I haven't maintained comp4trade for a few years now. But you're welcome anyway I still leave it at my site for reference, but my own comp listing is the only one I actively maintain. Jim took over comp4trade after me and made his own version, and did a nice job with it too, but it died a slow and quiet death.

That comp title doesn't ring any bells with me but there were a ton of them going back and forth with no mention around here. What are some of the songs on it?

    another old comp

pulled out an old comp called BUILDING ON FIRE by Darius (I believe) .

Man, talk about your ultimate Post-punk comp. It's just plain killer, I don't have the track list for this one handy, but it's a damn fine comp. If anyone needs schooled on what post-punk was all about, this is the comp you need. He also sent me a hip-hop comp called NOT MUSIC, so I'll have to give that one a spin here pretty soon.

Oh hey, I found it on hold comp4trade..hehe..

BUILDING ON FIRE - The New Wave 1976-79 (Darius)

    1. Discovering Japan - Graham Parker & the Rumour
    2. Love ê Building On Fire - Talking Heads
    3. Three Girl Rhumba - Wire
    4. Damaged Goods - Gang of Four
    5. You - Au Pairs
    6. 10:15 Saturday Night - The Cure
    7. Take Me I'm Yours - Squeeze
    8. Green Shirt - Elvis Costello & the Attractions
    9. Up Against the Wall - Tom Robinson Band
    10. So It Goes - Nick Lowe
    11. Outdoor Miner - Wire
    12. Socialist - Public Image Ltd.
    13. Science Friction - XTC
    14. The Staircase (Mystery) - Siouxsie & the Banshees
    15. Shot By Both Sides - Magazine
    16. Another Girl, Another Planet - The Only Ones

    It wasn't me J...

at least as far as the titles are concerned. I had one called "Scout Radio Manual" I believe (I'm on the road this week and can't check my cd stacks) and a companion with a similar name that escapes me at the moment. Those were actually done by some dj out in Seattle I believe and got passed to me by a friend. I was happy to share it with a bunch of Rave Rec'ers, and prolly sent them to you, but I can't take the credit for making the actual comp.

As Davey suggested, can you tell us a few of the artists and tracks on at least one of them?

    Regards,
    Swish Daddy
I call my bathroom Jim instead of John so I can tell people that I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

If you say the word 'gullible' very slowly it sounds just like oranges.
