Sounds like you're missing her more than us 'flier.

Ha ha. No. I just appreciated the fact that we had one more woman around. There's something a bit unnaturally isolationist about an all-guys club, especially if you consider how lop-sided our hobby has become.

And SB sure added a little spark to the conversations around here. Now don't even start telling us that you don't miss her. As I recall you two certainly had a considerable little thing going. With the exception of FA, I guess it's just back to an all guy's club, then.

    Let them in, Peter
    For they are very tired
Give them couches where the angels sleep
    And light those fires
    Let them wake whole again
    To brand new dawns
    Fired by the sun
    Not war-times bloody guns
    May their peace be deep
Remember where the broken bodies lie
God knows how young they were
    To have to die

You know God knows how young they were
    To have to die

    Give them things they like
    Let them make some noise
Give dance hall bands not golden harps
    To these our boys
    Let them love Peter
    For they've had no time
They should have bird songs and trees
    And hills to climb
    The taste of summer
    And a ripened pear
And girls as sweet as meadow wind
    And flowing hair
And tell them how they are missed
    But say not to fear
    It's gonna be all right
    With us down here

    Let them in, Peter
    For they are very tired
Give them couches where the angels sleep

A cloud of eiderdown draws around me
    Softening the sound
Sleepy time when I lie with my love by my side
And she's breathing low, and the candle dies

When night comes down you lock the door
The book falls to the floor
As darkness falls and waves roll by
The seasons change the wind is warm

Now wakes the owl, now sleeps the swan
Behold a dream, the dream is gone
    Green fields, a cold rain
Is falling in a golden dawn

And deep beneath the ground the early morning sounds
    And I go down
Sleepy time when I lie with my love by my side
    And she's breathing low
And I rise like a bird,
In the haze when the first rays touch the sky
    And the night winds die.

This song, recorded originally by ethnolusicologist Hugo Zemp and used in the album Deep Forest under the title, Sweet Lullaby, is from the Solomon Islands. Its original title is Rorogwela and is sung by a boy responding to his crying brother, appealing to the dead parents to keep the crying youngster comforted.

When Deep Forest was recorded, they altered the song slightly. Nevertheless, the heartbreaking beauty of the song was retained. It is translated:

Little brother, little brother, stop crying, stop crying
Though you are crying and crying, who else will carry you
Who else will groom you, both of us are now orphans

Little brother, little brother our mother and father
They have died and now live in on the island of the dead
From the island of the dead, their spirit will continue to look after us
Just like royalty, taken care of with all the wisdom of such a place

Little brother, little brother even in the gardens
This lullaby continues to the different divisions of the garden,
And even to each house visited, this lullaby seems endless
    Little brother, little brother
Though you are crying and crying, who else will carry you

Oh, oh…my heavens.. be quiet, be quiet
I am just a boy what have I done to you

Little brother, little brother you stop crying
Our mother and our father have died
Both of us are now orphans, little brother, little brother.

I met him on a monday and my heart stood still
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron.
Somebody told me that his name was Bill
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron.
    Yes, my heart stood still.
    Yes, his name was Bill.
And when he walked me home,
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron.

He knew what he was doin when he caught my eye
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron.
He looked so quiet, but my oh my,
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron.
    Yes, he caught my eye,
    Yes, but my oh my.
And when he walked me home,
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron.

He picked me up at seven and he looked so fine
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron.
Someday soon I m gonna make him mine
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron.
    Yes, he looked so fine.
Yes, I m gonna make him mine.
And when he walked me home,
Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron
    Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.
    Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.
So, I broke into the palace
With a sponge and a rusty spanner
She said : "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing"
I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"

So I'm there charging around with a juggernaut brow
Overdraft, speeches and deadlines to make
Cramming commitments like cats in a sack
Telephone burn and a purposeful gait

    When out of a doorway
The tentacles stretch of a song that I know
And the world moves in slow-mo
Straight to my head like the first cigarette of the day

And it's you and it's me
And we're sleeping through the day
    And I'm five years ago
    And three thousand miles away

Do I have time? A man of my caliber stood in the street
Like a sleepwalking teenager I know
And I dealt with this years ago
I took a hammer to every memento

But image on image like beads on a rosary
Pulled through my head as the music takes hold
And the sickener hits, I can work till I break
But I love the bones of you that I will never escape

And it's you and it's me
And we're sleeping through the day
    And I'm five years ago
    And three thousand miles away

And I can't move my arm
For the fear that you will wake
    And I'm five years ago
    And three thousand miles away

    And I'm five years ago
    And three thousand miles away
    And I'm five years ago
    And three thousand miles away

And it's you and it's me
And we're sleeping through the day
    And I'm five years ago
    And three thousand miles away

It was on the street so evil,
so bad that even hell disowned it.
Every single step was trouble for the fool who stumbled on it.
Eyes within the dark were watchin',
I felt that sudden chill of danger.
Something told me to keep on walkin',
told me I should not have gone there.

Baby, because you cut me like a knife, without your love in my life.
I'm out, I'm walkin' the night 'cause I just cant stop this feelin'.
    It's torture, it's torture, it's torture.

She was up a stair to nowhere.
    A room forever I'll remember.
She said as though I should have known her,
Tell me, what's your pain or pleasure?
Every little thing you find here is simply for the thrill you're after.
    Loneliness or hearts on fire.
I am here to serve all masters.

She said Reality is a knife, when there's no love in your life.
Unmerciful is the night when you just can't stop this feelin'.
    It's torture, it's torture, it's torture.

And I still can't find the meaning, of the face I keep on seeing.
Was she real or am I dreaming?
Did the sound of your name turn a wheel, strike a flame in me?

Baby, because you cut me like a knife, without your love in my life.
I'm out, I'm walkin' the night and I just can't stop this feeling.
    It's torture, it's torture, it's torture.

She said Reality is a knife, when there's no love in your life.
Unmerciful is the night when you just can't stop this feelin'.
    It's torture, it's torture, it's torture.

Some will sell their dreams for small desires
Or lose the race to rats
    Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
    To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights...
This song by Geddy, Neil and Alex, more than anything I've listened to in my +35 years of rock-n-roll passion has held such a strong tug on my heart strings. But it's the way the song ends that without fail brings a tear to my eyes every time I listen to it. Goes something like this with Geddy & Neil harmonizing with their guitars:

Laaa, la la laaaa, la la la laaa, la la laaaaaa, la la la la laaaaa la... and so on.

Yes, it smelled like the teen spirit of that generation...

Load up on guns and bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
    She's over-bored and self-assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word

    Hello, hello, hello, how low?
    Hello, hello, hello, how low?
    Hello, hello, hello, how low?
    Hello, hello, hello

With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
    I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us

    A mulatto, an albino
    A mosquito, my libido
    Yeah, hey, yay

I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end

    Hello, hello, hello, how low?
    Hello, hello, hello, how low?
    Hello, hello, hello, how low?
    Hello, hello, hello

With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
    I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us

    A mulatto, an albino
    A mosquito, my libido
    Yeah, hey, yay

And I forget just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it's hard to find
    Oh well, whatever, nevermind

    Hello, hello, hello, how low?
    Hello, hello, hello, how low?
    Hello, hello, hello, how low?
    Hello, hello, hello

With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
    I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us

    A mulatto, an albino
    A mosquito, my libido

    A denial, a denial
    A denial, a denial
    A denial, a denial
    A denial

A spider wanders aimlessly within the warmth of a shadow
Not the regal creature of border caves
But the poor, misguided, directionless familiar of some obscure Scottish poet

The mist crawls from the canal
Like some primordial phantom of romance
To curl, under a cascade of neon pollen
While I sit tied to the phone like an expectant father
Your carnation will rot in a vase
So, I broke into the palace
With a sponge and a rusty spanner
She said : "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing"
I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"

We're Knights of the Round Table.
    We dance whene'er we're able.
We do routines and chorus scenes
    With footwork impeccable.
We dine well here in Camelot.
We eat ham and jam and spam a lot.
We're Knights of the Round Table.
    Our shows are formidable,
But many times we're given rhymes
    That are quite unsingable.
    We're opera mad in Camelot.
We sing from the diaphragm a lot.

In war we're tough and able,
    Quite indefatigable.
Between our quests we sequin vests and impersonate Clark Gable.
It's a busy life in Camelot.

I have to push the pram a lot.
So, I broke into the palace
With a sponge and a rusty spanner
She said : "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing"
I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"

    ]hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
    I focus on the pain
    The only thing that's real
    The needle tears a hole
    The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
    But I remember everything

    What have I become?
    My sweetest friend
    Everyone I know
    Goes away in the end
    You could have it all
    My empire of dirt
    I will let you down
    I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of ****
    Upon my liar's chair
    Full of broken thoughts
    I cannot repair
    Beneath the stains of time
    The feelings disappear
    You are someone else
    I am still right here

    What have I become?
    My sweetest friend
    Everyone I know
    Goes away in the end

    You could have it all
    My empire of dirt
    I will let you down
    I will make you hurt
    If I could start again
    A million miles away
    I would keep myself
    I would find a way

Is there a reason to be concerned? I hope not. Maybe these lyrics will cheer him up. They're from a song in a little known Richard Blackburn movie - Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural (1973).

    PAPER ANGEL
She was holy and divine, and I wished that girl was mine
Her eyes they were the bluest of them all
But on that dark black day when she laughed and walked away
I knew she was a-headin' for a fall

She had lovely golden hair that would perfume up the air
I told that girl that one day we'd be wed
But she only laughed at me, I wasn't good enough, you see
And that is what this paper angel said

Well I saw her late last night, Oh God, she was a sight
All painted up and powdered like a whore
And I knew that wife of mine is the one that's so divine
And there ain't no paper angel anymore

Was this from a "looking for" personal ad on craigslist?

    A friend in need's a friend indeed
A friend with weed is better
A friend with breasts and all the rest
A friend who's dressed in leather
