I like this idea to reduce ticket scalping...

Although it's bound to create some chaos on the night of the show, this is the ticket process for the Green Day show near us.'

Copied from the Ticketbastard web site:

A "FORCED WILL CALL" PROCEDURE WILL BE IN EFFECT FOR THE ENTIRE GENERAL ADMISION FLOOR, SECTIONS 107, 108, 122, 123 AND FRONT OF SECTIONS 106 AND 124 (FA: sections closest to the stage)

THERE IS A TICKET LIMIT OF 4 PER PERSON IN THESE SECTIONS

TICKETS PURCHASED IN THESE SECTIONS WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP NIGHT OF SHOW.

ON THE NIGHT OF THE SHOW THE TICKET PURCHASER ALONG WITH ALL MEMBERS OF THE PARTY MUST PRESENT THE ORIGINAL CREDIT CARD USED, CONFIRMATION NUMBER AND PHOTO I.D TO OBTAIN THE TICKETS.

THE TICKETS WILL BE SCANNED AND YOU AND YOUR PARTY WILL BE ESCORTED IN THE VENUE. ONCE IN THE BUILDING YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE AT ANY POINT

This is because there are a lot of ticket fraud scams as well. A friend of my wife's bought tickets not through Ticketbastard, but from a third party (or at least that was the explaination). When our friends got to the concert, they were turned back because the tickets they held had already been scanned...three times. I guess someone bought the tickets originally from Ticketbastard and then put them on their own website and sold them online over and over to perhaps several different people.

I heard they're posting stromtroopers at each seat to make sure that no-one misbehaves. They will follow you to the bathroom (at specified times) and concession stand (only one drink per show).....

I didn't think of that, but it makes more sense to me that this is the reason. It explains why the tickets are scanned immediately upon pick-up.

Just another by-product of Ticketmaster allowing people to print their own tickets at home (and charging them extra for the privilege of using their own paper and ink). While it's convenient, the print-at-home option is fraught with potential fraud since anyone with a printer can now counterfeit their own tickets.

Before they went to this option, TM was taking some steps aimed at stamping out counterfeit tickets -- watermarking, holograms, etc. Looking at some of the ticket scalping listings, I notice that the preprinted tickets often carry a price premium over the print-at-home paper copies.

This procedure by Green Day though seems a tad bit draconian. I've gone to concerts with friends that live and work quite a distance from me, so we arrange to meet at the concert in our seats. If someone gets caught in traffic after work or otherwise cannot show up on time, this kind of arrangement means that everybody in the party would potentially miss a good part of the concert if one person cannot show up on time.

I bought my Dream Theater tickets through Live Nation and there was a notice on their web site that beginning in June tickets for all Live Nation venues in the US will only be available through Live Nation. I'm sure it's a matter of time before they expand that to Canada. So Live Nation is going to cut Ticketbastard out of the loop. My initial reaction was joy! But then I looked at Live Nation's service fees and realized that I was paying the same fees just to a different Gouger. I guess Live Nation got tired of giving up all this potential revenue to someone else. Since they are the exclusive seller for the venues that they own, this won't even create competition.

Lol, that's probably not the optimum solution. Of course my statement was at least half tongue-in-cheek. On the other hand, there's something to be said by not having to abide by laws that make one feel like cattle.
