I'm not sure how easy it is to take the cover off, but once you do, it should easy to swap tubes. I think v.2 uses a pair of 6DJ8s instead of some obscure foreign top secret militality issued non-replaceable valves.

Just wiggle it side to side ver gently and pull them out, When you replace them, just make sure they are in all the way. I would grab the lower part of tubes and insert it. If you need more pressure, then grab a cploth and push it down from top. Leaving figure marks could result to uneven temp distribution. I woulkdnt worry too much though,

Best one to to use for upgrade? That's hard to say.
You are just gonna have to find out what you prefer with your setup.

Just get a pair of same model. So dont get a tube of Mullard and a tube of Telefunken. A Pair of simple EH will sound better in your setup

Yeah, it's pretty use -- just take the hex nuts off the back, and pull it through the front. It's on a PCB board.

Someone used to have a website devoted to tuberolling the X-CAN, but I can't seem to find it right now. The closest I could find was this.
