The bass performance from isolating buds depends a lot on how they fit in your ear.

Dead on. I find that the smallest foam vs. rubber fit my ear canal the best. The Shures come with about six different sets having different sizes and are of different materials. You need to find what works best for you. Ideally, you would get a custom fit set like the pros do with their IEMs.

Oh, and they do isolate nicely which sometimes leads me to use them for 'protection' when vacuuming and doing other noise intensive activities.

Great minds think alike! I use mine whenever I run the lawn tractor or use the gas powered blower. I actually look forward to the chores now.
