    Your funny

Rich, since you already gotta 880, I highly suggest you pick up the Blu Wave remote to use with it. The commands are already in Logitech's database so you don't have to do any learning. Sony added a "turn off" icon to the XMB so now the 880/Blu Wave combo can control 99% of the PS3 functions. The only thing you can't do is turn the system on(you have to get off your butt to put a disc in anyways, or do like me and leave your controller on the couch).

Is it "Frack it" or "Frick it"? I though it was "Frick it".

Anyway, thanks GM. The BFD isn't far off. Just gotta let a couple of paychecks work their way into my life first.

    Tell me what XMB is.

The PS3™ system includes a user interface called XMB™ (XrossMediaBar). The horizontal row shows system features in categories, and the vertical column shows items that can be performed under each category. The main screen for XMB™ is called the "home menu".

Maybe you should get a head start and read this:

XMB is XrossMediaBar, a Sony-developed graphical user interface

    XrossMediaBar
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    XMB on a PSX

PSX XMB on a Sony BRAVIA TV
The XrossMediaBar (pronounced CrossMediaBar and officially abbreviated as XMB) is the Emmy award-winning graphical user interface developed by Sony.[1]

The interface features icons that are spread horizontally across the screen. Navigation moves the icons, instead of a cursor. These icons are used as categories to organize the options available to the user. When an icon is selected on the horizontal bar, several more appear vertically, above and below it (selectable by the up and down directions on a directional pad).

Originally used on the PSX, the XrossMediaBar is used as the default interface on both the PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation 3. Since 2006, it has also been used in high-end WEGA TVs,[2] the BRAVIA starting with the 3000 (only in S-series and above),some sony Cybershot cameras and the high-end STR-DA 5200ES AV receiver. The Sony Ericsson K850's and W910's media menu is also a version of XMB, indicating that the next implementation of XMB is in Sony Ericsson mobile phones. The XMB has also been confirmed as the menu system in the next generation of Sony's BRAVIA TVs.[3] Sony has also added the XMB to it's latest range of Vaio laptops.[4]

It works a little like windows, but with cool looking pics to keep us simple guys interested.

Cool. Sounds like the XMB has quite a history.

Woke up this morning, checked my e-mail and found that my system shipped yesterday, and is on its way to the local UPS hub here in North Texas. Should be here by Monday, hopefully tomorrow.

I'm using Tversity to stream all my photos, video & music. Their website provides alot of info and useful setup guides. I'm not as computer savvy as some of these fellas around here but I got it installed pretty easily. I've never had any issues with it and I'm able to play my music ripped in FLAC. TVersity transcodes it so the PS3 sees it as PCM.

WMP is pretty simple to use also. Turn on the PS3, click media share under the options menu. Check the share my media box and a little icon that says unknown device is there(that's the PS3...you takin' notes Rich), click allow. A WMP icon should show up on your PS3 under various categorizes(video, photo, music).

My yahoo music shows a icon on the PS3 as well. Pretty much just have to enable sharing. I don't remember if my firewall gave me any trouble.

To rip a disc to your HD, highlight the disc, press triangle and then copy. You can adjust the format and bitrate settings in the music settings. I like to keep songs on my HD because some games will allow you to play your own background music.

Toaster settings come with firmware update 2.50

Didn't I see this act in an old Star Trek episode? Sulu? It's just the heavy water talking buddy. Please put the sword down and come to sickbay.

Uhm? Who's head is that you are dragging? Do you remember where the body is? This place is gonna stank in a few days.

    Up and running...

Gee this thing gets hot! It's in the TV's cabinet but the door is wide open and there's plenty of ventilation all around it.

Anyway, setup was pretty easy after I got used to using the controller. I haven't setup the wireless network yet so I'm not connected to the PS network, but as soon as I do I'll update to the latest firmware rev. This box is at 2.35.

Right now I'm playing a CD and I can tell right off the bat that the transport in this box is way better than that in my DVD changer. Once again, an improvement in sound clarity and definition, the cymbals on Pink Floyd's Meddle tracks are more audible and crisp without distortion.

First question: I can only select "Straight PCM" and my only available Surround decode is... "PCM". Do I need to use the Bitstream setting in the PS3's setup in order to be able to select surround modes on my receiver?
