Must have caught it from one of the roofers.....

Two weeks ago had a new roof put on the house.
Last week stabbing pain starts in my kidney and rib cage. Lots of teeth gnashing.
Friday finally got to the ER and am told by the doctor that it is "Shingles"
    Coincidence????? I think not!

While "Shingles" are not contagious since it is a adult variation of chicken pox (actually once you have had the chicken pox virus you always have it but when it becomes active again it is called Shingles) I can spread chicken pox to those who have not had it or have not been immunized. As a result I am house bound this weekend. Normally that would mean a great opportunity to record some records etc. but feeling like a mule is kicking you in the kidney every few minutes kind of limits my activities.

Have you seen your doctor? I took care of a patient who developed shingles and Valtrex did an amazing job at making him symptom free and clearing up the skin. Valtrex does a great job with herpes zoster.

Yes the doctor proscribed 3 drugs (Carbamazepine,Acyclovir and Oxycodone). He basically admiited they would not do too much except possible lessen some of the effects and the Oxycodone might help with the pain. He said you pretty much you just have to let it run its course which could take as long as 6 weeks. yikes:

Valtrex is amazing when it comes to shingles. I had it last year, and I thought I would die, or was going to. It was soooooooo painful. After taking Valtrex, it was only days that I had to deal with it, rather than weeks.

I would not wish shingles on anyone, it is plain horrible. Kid, get well quick man, and my thoughts are with you.

    Sir T

    Thanks for the sentiments.
Hopefully I can shake this soon. My guess is that stress brought it on and I don't see my stress level going down any time soon........
