    Antibodies for Rare Targets

Does anyone know a good place to find antibodies for really niche or uncommon proteins? I’m studying something super specific, and most catalogs I check don’t have it. Custom antibodies are an option, but they’re way too pricey for me right now

Finding antibodies for rare or niche proteins is a real struggle, especially when big suppliers don’t list them. I had this exact issue studying a low-expression cytokine — I tried five different vendors, and none of the antibodies worked properly. A colleague suggested Gentaur https://gentaur.co.uk/antibodies/, and that’s where I finally found one that was validated for my exact application. The cool part is they also help you locate custom antibodies if it’s not already in their catalog. Their communication was super fast, and the data sheet included all the details I needed. So yeah, if you’re dealing with obscure targets, Gentaur is definitely worth checking before resorting to expensive custom orders.

I feel this one deeply — I’ve worked with a super obscure plant protein, and the lack of validated antibodies was a nightmare. What helped was reaching out to colleagues in other institutions; sometimes they’ve already done the validation and can share insights. It’s surprising how much tribal knowledge exists in research that never makes it to publications. I also learned to pay extra attention to datasheets — species reactivity can save or ruin an experiment.
