    plasma is DEAD...part deux
WELL, since my last thread received such "positive " response , just thought I would post an update on the next eight track tape player...PLASMA TV FORM FACTOR.
Saw a few 720p in Walmart during my last drug run, no 1080p.
    Saw two 1080p in Sams.
They continue to cost more than LCD, makes sense, they cost more to make.
Sad development, DLP seems out the door.
Anyway there is news on the display wars, another nail in Plasmas coffin.
    Its called LED.
This is an interim feature that will drive a stake into the heart of plasma for good.
As the death of RPTV and DLP demonstrate, peeps want flat MONITORS.
Well, the next best thang, LED backlights will help that greatly.
Not only do these promise a better black level and color purity than plasma, they promise a thinner screen.
As thin as a half an inch.
WHY IS THIN important? I dunno , but a LED backlight LCD looks impressive, and the picture is to DIE for.
THIS WILL BE UNTIL OLED gets its boots on the ground properly.
You can talk aboout a 30% increase in plasma sales, LCD still outsells it.
AND IN A YEAR or two, thin LCD sets with LED backlights, lasting even longer than models with flourescent models and more efficent, its gonna be all but over for plasma
No reason to buy one, amd if they cant compete now, just wait a year.
    Its gonna be BLOODY.
Speaking of which, getcha brickbats, rotten tomatoes, etc ready.
    Doesnt matter....
    PLASMA IS DEAD!!!

I don't agree RR. I'm not a big fan of the Plasma is Dead threads other than they are cobbled together with anecdotal "evidence", ill-concived notions, and the ramblings of a guy with a vendetta against Plasma.

But I don't think that it is "Spam". There are plenty of threads that invite heated arguments. Are you going to close down every thread in speakers that are about wire? Or every thread in recievers that are pro-Bose, or Anti-Bose? If you don't like the topic or the host, don't post.

And pix, you are a nut.

I love how he continues to say plasmas cost more, even after I and a few others have posted many examples to prove that theory wrong.

    And? What's your point?

Several years ago I bought a 52 inch Panasonic LCD Rear Projection TV... I knew full well at the time that the tech would not last, as the move was obviously towards ultra-thin wall mountable TVs.... But I bought the Panny anyway with no regrets.... The reason was simple: back then if I wanted a LCD Flat Panel, I would have paid the same price for a 32 inch one or a 37 inch Plasma as I did for the 52 Inch LCD projection... Since I could care less about mounting the TV on the wall, the Panny was a far better value for money...

My point is that it doesn't matter whether the TV tech will eventually be replaced... if it offers you what you want for your money, then buy it...

A co-worker's Pioneer Plasma is 9 years old. I watched football games on it Saturday and the color and clarity were just fine for a 720p HDTV.

So, if you're in the market for a TV today you should wait a couple years for maybe LED to become viable. Of course by then you'll be advcocating that folks wait another few years for the ghost of OLED to be affordable without a government bailout. One can only imagine the havoc you'll wreak with the phrase "LED is dead.", all the while thinking it's clever.

Is plasma dying? Sure just like you and me, the WHO G64 and, apparently, the public school system. With a 30% increase in sales, a more affordable price tag, and a superior picture quality, plasma is more like the Southern Sea Otter, if we're gonna make Endangered Species list analogies. It's clearly the best buy unless your goal is to continuously rationalize a series of lowest common denominator purchases.

True. He does spout off a lot of half truths, propaganda and flat out lies, but his posts do get the more knowledgeable members here to step up and set the record straight. I've learned a lot from those who have been debunking his drivel.
Keep up the good work Pix. Part of me thinks you've been saying these things to purposely get to the truth.

T., I've said this before... Some of your greatest work here is directly connected to the antagonism that is pixies style. Now, I said 'some' not all. I'm glad there haven't been any (many) political bruhahas, just as a for instance.

Gb, sorry, but you completely missed it. That was suppose to be a joke on the Pix. I was hoping my phony closed thread banner would cause everyone to pick up on the humor and simply not make any posts at all. That would have been the ultimate slam on Pix, not one post in response, would have sent him over the top, just complete dead silence would be the classic response. The spam remark was not seriuos but in response to his claiming that we are always spamming for plasma and Panasonic (get it?).

It is not the argumentative threads, they are fun. It is Pix and the repetitive nonsense. You guys are just playing into his hands. Here we go again, a page after page rematch of the Pix and Boom-Boom Wooch duking it out all over again!

Oh well, at least I tried.

Oh boy, another PLASMA IS DEAD thread! Wassah mattah pixie, U not gettin' enuff attention at home that you gotta repeat yourself yet again? :rolleyes5:

Sounds like great news for Panasonic, Samsung, LG, and Pioneer, given that after the last time pixie declared plasma dead, plasma panel shipments GREW by more than 30+%!

In this economy, we should all be asking for our last rites from pixie -- we'd be gazillionaires by the time he's done spouting off! :out:

Pretty funny that pixie's harping on the price difference yet again, given that the sets priced competitively with 1080p plasmas are the 60 Hz CCFL-backlit LCD models that fall well short of the plasma sets' performance. Oh sure, the LED-backlit models might come down to the current plasma price levels in a year or two, but it's not like plasma TVs are a sitting target (that is unless you're like pixie and try to pass off 10-year old info about plasma TVs getting shipped in metal containers with 50% DOA rates)

Just last week at CES, Panasonic demoed a 0.33" thick plasma panel that reduces energy consumption by more than half, and more than doubles the maximum light output. Those sets are due out next year, while this year's new plasma lineup features a 1" thick panel that reduces average energy consumption by 30% while also boosting the maximum light output. Expect similar announcements from Samsung and LG. Dead technologies should all be this robust ...

P.S. Figures that pixie would get his "research" from a "drug run" to Walmart. :out:

Actually, I think HE'S the one spamming for plasma and Panasonic considering how many people on this board bought plasma TVs after witnessing his Vizio LCD fanboidom in action!

    NO "THEORY", just fact.
In a HHGREG flyer all of the plasmas were more than the lcds.
At walfart the plasmas were cheaper, but 720P.
IF a plasma is cheaper its being subsidized ...
    THEY cost more to make.
And dont forget, TWICE as much to run, so over the (short) life of one they will burn more juice:1:

My first post IS the truth old man.
LED LCD is going to be an interim to OLED.
Plasma sales are going to drop off of the floor(where they are already)
