SERIOUS ... uh, make that SICK Bass coming soon from Adire

Checking up on Adire Audio's forum for the first time in a while, I stumbled upon some rumored products that they will debut over at CES next week. With their latest round of proposed subwoofers, they seem maniacally intent on destroying some walls!

My familiarity with Adire is through their refined and well mannered Rava subwoofer. (Refined to the point that the Rava sometimes gets typecast as a "musical" sub, but I can vouch that they're equally in their element with home theatre sources.) But, what they're about to unveil borders on madness!

First off, Dan Wiggins dropped a hint that they've got a monster sub debuting at CES. Nicknamed the Apocalypse, it's supposed to output 20 Hz at reference level without a box or baffle. Not sure if the product is just the driver or if they got a full-fledged subwoofer debuting. Rumor is that we're talking about a 24" driver here.

The other sub making its debut at Adire's booth will be the self-powered version of Acoustic Visions' (one of Adire's distributors) Everest sub. The passive version of this sub has two 15" Tumult drivers (pictured below, these displace twice the air that their well regarded Tempest driver does), and four 18" passive radiators. All weighing in at 400 lbs. and selling for a measly sum of $2,500!

So, for you bass freaks, here's a bone ...

Adire's Tumult driver (the home version of their Brahma car audio driver) -- the Everest sub pictured below features two of these drivers, along with four passive radiators.

    Crazy!

That sub is awesome! I can't believe it's price as well! My question is what amplifier is driving it ad how much power is it giving it? I can't wait to see their monster sub coming out.

Question So this begs the question...

when can one reach the limit? When is the bass you have, too much bass? I've a HSU VTF-3 on my main system and while I love it, for music I had to adjust the crossover and volume to get it to blend with my mains so it compliments not overpowers. For movie the thing litterally has the china cabinet dancing across the floor. All that being said, unless one has a HT room the size of a commercial theatre, why would anyone ever need such a behemoth? What would you hear besides that? Or is it just a man thing. You can't use 400 horsepower, but you want it just the same?

    I'm just curious.

I don't think there is a limit. Although this has little to do with high fidelity, and more to do with who can top who.

    Soooo after all these years...

It's still.. "my sub's bigger than your sub"? Man, I thought that went out years ago.... Just kidding. Okay. Guess I'm not totally obsessed as some folks are.

They actually have competitions for car bass. Take a look at this 24,000 watt amp!
