safe to run 2 headphones from 1 headphone out jack on a/v receiver??

just wondering is it safe to run to sets of heaphones from 1 headphone out jack on the a/v receiver if you have a y adaptor conected? Will it harm the amp or the headies in anyway or is it totaly safe to do?
