Hey, frenchmon. My goal was to find a multi-disc changer that upconverts standard definition dvds for display on my plasma hdtv as well as my Toshiba HD-A2. In a head-to-head comparison with the Toshiba using the same movie playing in both machines at the same time while I switched back and forth, the Toshiba was smoother (more film-like), more accurate with colors, and better with details in dark scenes/shadows. The Marantz looked only slightly better than my old non-upconverting dvd player on my hdtv. The Marantz does add SACD and DVD-A which I thought would be nice to have only if the Marantz's picture with standard def dvds was satisfactory. It wasn't. I didn't test the Marantz's multi-channel music abilities, but its audio with movies is good.
