    hdmi output on dvd player

Would using a dvd player with hdmi output have any better quality than my current dvd player that has component? I have a sony hdtv with hdmi and component inputs...i dont think it would increase resolution but maybe sharpen it up a bit with dvd movies......it looks great already.

You got it. It would at best sharpen the picture up a bit if you have an LCD or LCoS display, since component is liable to roll off the high frequencies. Whether you would notice such improvement depends on many variables. I won't bother to list them all. However, unless your component feed is excessively noisy or flawed--an unlikely scenario--any improvement is not likely to be night and day. In rare cases, the results from HDMI are inferior to those with component, but this is definitely an anomaly that signals poor digital implementation. Sonys do not as a rule suffer from it.
