There could be a number of fixes to this problem:

1.Proper settings of each speaker and adjustment for placement (test tones with sound meter)

2. If your AVR has this function (dialog adjustment +/-)

3. Seating position (sweet spot or off center)


Most of the time a decent AVR can over come the short comings of the DVD or DVD player
