Stereo subs do not add stereo imaging or soundstaging. The cues to that are found in the mids and highs. According to the great Doc Greene you will not find much stereo bass in recordings as most bass is summed to a mono position. There is much bass found in the main channels of soundtracks, but unless your subs are connected to the main channels, and a crossover implemented you won't hear(or feel) any separation. The LFE channel bass is mono anyway, so connecting two of them to this channel is fruitless if you are looking for phase differences that equal to stereo.
