The klipsch synergy SF-1 is rated at 100 watts cont. and 400 watts peak (not 300watts). System a+b are the same channel. Just a speaker switch to control 2 sets of speakers. Never heard of a 175 watt 2 channel sony rec. What died first the tweeters? Probably clipped them to death with distorted power. Speakers are less likely to be damaged with too much power rather then not enough. I would say if only one speaker died it was a defect. If both speakers died you killed them (not a defect). Most speakers buzz,sometimes smoke and spark when overpowered before they die.

What your lookin for are CERWIN VEGA'S! thats it. If you want a speaker that you can abuse its the only one. some of these will handle 400-450 watts cont.

that Infinity CC-2 looks way too small for your setup. it looks like you need something beefier with dual 6.5" woofers.

The power supply blew on a Quad ESL-63, which is an expensive repair. Since our present house is not really suitable for them, I looked for some forward radiating speakers. After some extensive auditioning, I have replaced them with PSB Stratus Minis, which I have to admit, are more accurate than the Quads.

The Quad, Nak and Yamaha date from 1978, the table from 1985, the NAD and Denon from 1987 and the speakers from 1983. Just got the Blue Point on e-bay. So it's a vintage system that sounds and performs the way it did at purchase, save for the Denon - but then tape decks seem inherently prone to breakage (my Onkyo had a relatively short life as well). If there's better sounding speakers than the ADSs in that price range ($1500 new, though I got them at discount), I haven't heard them.

Don't be ashamed. Paradigm blew away most of the audio world a couple years ago, when their high-value-for-the-dollar stuff got popular. :) And besides, my speakers only cost me like $275 (plus tax.... I hate that, I used to live in NH, where there isn't any).

SVS 20-39CSi and Samson amp still in system. (Likely will move to Rocket UFW-12.)
nOrh LeAmps still in system though verdict pending due to:
Yamaha RX-V650 - Will be delivered today (7/9) and added into the system either today or tomorrow.

New member checking in with a recent success story. My newest addition is an Adcom 5802 to power my Maggie 0.6QR main speakers above 60Hz. I was using my Denon AVR-3803 to power my 5. speakers, but the main screens were just not at all musical with the Denon. I read about Adcom being a good match for Maggies, and also about the quality of MOSFETs vs BiPolars. When I found a deal on a used 5802, I jumped in. I have my main Maggies bi-wired now to the 5802 and it is the best audio purchase I've ever made. The sound is so sweet and real - seems like I am hearing real instruments in the room, not reproductions. Piano has been a disappointment on the Maggies until now, but no more. It's now like felt on strings instead of metal on metal, and all the harmonics are there. Sound stage is huge (perhaps too huge for some). Near total accuracy as far as my ears can detect - so revealing that my old favorites have all kinds of little surprises for me now.
With the Denon 3803 offloaded to only power the surrounds and center Maggies, which are 5 ohms 1-way >100Hz, it now has the current capacity to get the job done and these speakers blend well with the mains.
Anyone with Maggies and not perfectly happy with the sound, check out the 5802. Audio nirvana to my ears. Seems like 450 watts into 4 ohms would be overkill, and it probably is. I don't drive it beyond realistic listening levels for a small room, and I expect most of the time the 5802 is loafing along in pure class A mode. DVD-Audio is spectacular on this system. My listening hours are way up since this upgrade. Total transformation.
