    Sony DA1ES preout hum

Got a riddle here for ya to solve forum members. I received my Rocket ELTSW-10 today. Hooked it up to the DA1ES subwoofer preout and got a nice constant hum. After much fiddling around I think I have determined the source is the receiver rather the sub. I can hook up the sub with speaker level inputs and using the low line connected to a walkman radio and both work fine, no humming. I also tried the front L/R preouts with the same hum. The sub doesn't have speaker level output so putting it inline with my speakers isn't possible (I'd really rather not do that anyway). Anybody have any ideas on how I can use this sub with the receiver? The DA1ES does not have seperate A/B speaker set-up, btw.

Slap me if this is stupid; can the sub multichannel out of a dvd player (Pioneer DV-563A in this case) go directly into a sub. Isn't the signal already processed and just needs amplification?
