Question Bose speaker locations advised required! *PICS inside

Hello guys, I will be using Marantz SR-18 with Bose Acoustimass 10 5.1. As you can see my studio is very small. My couch's distance to my closet is very close. At the rear I'll just put the speakers on top instead of getting wall mount. I'll probably put my dvd player on the top tv shelf while the center speaker sit on top of the dvd player. While the reciever sits in the middle self for better ventilation.

Do you guys think I should go wider on the front speakers? and maybe a little bit higher?

Is it okay if I put the center speaker right under the LCD? So this leaves to a clean look.
( i'll manage to fit the DVD in the middle shelf )

    Thanks for any feedback

So the only speakers you have to choose form are Bose. There has to be some other options available. I know your in Taiwan but there has to be something else. Can you do mail order ?

anything else like B&W, KEF, Klipsch, etc are too big. I was looking at the orb speakers but I have never heard of them so I am afarid to buy those.

The Orb's are actually far superior to the Bose your looking at. I spent a short period of time with them and was quite impressed. Besides if you dont like them you can send them back. Do a search on google. Theres a bunch of great reviews out there.

Bose is flat out garbage in my opinion. Especially the AM systems your looking at. There built like crap and they actually have an entire portion of the frequency spectrum missing because those cubes can't go low enough to integrate with the sub properly. KEF would actually work quite well in your set up. But you should really take a serious look at the Orb's. There that good. I understand your hesitation because you have never heard of them. But trust me they are the real deal for the market they are serving. Plus their cheaper than Bose.

    Thanks for the reply anamorphic.

I will definitely look into ORB speakers. Personally, I don't think the AM bose is that good imo. I watch dvd with tv speaker and I can't stand it anymore. KEF speakers are too big for me and they are not cheap. Is there any other satelite i'm missing? ORB, Bose, any other?

Looks like Orb Audio ships international. Which of their system is good? $749 one?

The Mission M-Cube system might work as well.

    hey anamorphic

I just spoke with the guy at orbs. I think i'll get them!!!! I'm just wondering if I should get the MOD2. He said the sound will be warmer. But in my case, since my place is very small maybe I don't need it. Also they have two size subs to choose from. I don't know if I should get the bigger one or not. hmm

Go with the Mod 2 package all the way. The extra drivers will provide a fuller sound with better dynamic headroom and will integrate better with the sub. The Mod 2 will also allow the system to work better in a larger room in case you move to a larger place in the future. As far as the sub. Go with the super eight.

    Hope this helps.

I wouldn't keep my DVD player on top of the vents on my receiver like that.

    Takin' out Da Trash

Yeah, I am not a big fan of Bose either. Looks like you are limited for space to spread things out a little.

One small speaker that I am impressed with, since I use them on my home theater system, are the Epos ELS3's. They are very compact, yet put out an excellent sound stage and good detail with fairly decent bottom end too. The only drawback is they don't come with mounting brackets. But for me that was a non-issue. And they cost less than $350 for the pair. Also, Boston Acoustics makes something similar to the Bose Acoustimcass and sounds better too. Price can very on the Boston Acoustics so if you decide to go that route it pays to do a little shopping around.

Due to your limited space the areas you highlighted overhead would be fine for your rear speakers. I guess in a pinch it would be ok to put your main's on the same level, up above. The only real problem is the center channel......which if everything else is up above, you might want to see if you can place the center channel there as well. However, by seeing what you have to work with you might want to see if you can have the center channel mounted if possible. I would agree with emorphein that you really do need to place the DVD player anywhere but on top of your amp.

Good luck. I hope this is of some assistance to you.

with all due respect, look beyond Bose..

Ther are so many good 'lifestyle' home theater packages out there. Look at kef, Mirage, def tech and on and on. I'm partial to kef but there are many that can be had for less and that sound great.

I have conversed with him through PM's and he is going with the Orb Audio Mod 2 setup with the Super 8 subwoofer.

Why don't you try wider speakers?

he seems to bash bose the whole review...
Would have been more professional had he simply stated a review and left the bashing elsewhere...

He just tells it like it is.
I, and many others, don't like professional reviews. How many professional reviews have you seen, that really tells the truth? They're being paid to sell the equipment, with their review! You hardly ever see reviews that don't say how wonderful the product is. They may say something like, "the remote could have been better". They don't say stuff that might keep somebody from buying the product.

Actual user reviews are much better, and more honest, than some pro that's being paid. The pro isn't gonna bite the hand that feeds him.
