    I take it that this needs to be a higher end pre-processors that does this? At least on my Denon AVR-687, all vocals came out of the center.

    Awww.... Spoken like a man with much experience. I read Mr. P. talk about his $8,000 tube amp and I just cann't relate. Like I bought my 20 year of pre-amp for $85 and think it's just so good. One of these day's I'll move up the food chain....

    No, any receiver or processor that does 5.1. In stereo the left/right have to sum signals to create a center image. With 5.1 the dialog is mostly dedicated to the center channel as long as that's what matches the screen. As far as panning from left to right or vice versa I would think that the same no matter center or not.
