    Bass Players and Afficianados

Hey all. Seems there's no shortage of bass players here at AR. Thought I'd devise a scheme to entertain our slappin and poppin needs, right here at AR.

First post is an amazing interview with Victor Wooten. Don't worry, he brought his bass along too...

Not the Pappa but I'm still kicking my own ass for ever selling my 70s era fret-less Rickenbacker, Sun 200 watt tube head and Ampeg SVT cabinet.

Right now I am playing an 88 Music Man through an Ampeg V4, Crate 15 and Fender 2 - 10. It's a nice combo. I have some effects I play around with too, lately a rack mounted Zoom.

Hey Auric, how can I post a screen from YouTube like you did?

Yeah I play a vintage Peavey t-40 bass that is my comfort zone. I also play a Traben Kore custom 5 string. And my head and cabs are a Peavey Tour 700 head and TVX 410 and 15 cabinets. Its a real good sounding setup and I have played through it with several different styles of playing and it sounds great.

Nice Pic Worf! I thought maybe we could make an interesting thread so that when things cool down on the site, we could still have something fun to check out.

Guys, link anything bass related that's fun and interesting to watch....

The Ampeg B-15 has a 15" also. When I bought the Traynor and the Sunn in the seventies I was going to college under the GI Bill and playing gigs on the weekends. I love the tone of the Ampeg but got tired of being drowned out by over zealous guitar players with Marshall stacks so I bought the Traynor. A friend needed bail money one time and that's how I got the Sunn.
The Ampeg was/is my favorite. One person can move it. It has some real synergy with my Baby Bass and Precision. The Sunn is very LOUD. It doesn't have the warm rich tone that tubes give the Traynor and Ampeg but it's LOUD..
The EB-3 has a round backed neck like a Les Paul. I've never liked the way it feels. I guess I've kept it because it's the only Chocolate Brown one I've ever seen. All the rest have been red.

    abraham laboriel

i've been catching him here in LA for quite a while. first time with paul horn/lalo schifrin at the santa monica civic in the late 70s. if you can find the paul horn 'dream machine' album, youll get the idea. the way he wielded the weapon on stage and the resulting performance was quite a sight and sound to witness.

around town here, he plays a lot with alex acuna and justo almario. also, at the baked potato in a group called MINSTRY which isnt the rock group, i saw him play with his son (also abraham) on drums. his son can be seen playing drums behind paul mc cartney these days.

he plays sometimes in the style which i call flamenco bass. certainly one of the greats.
    ...regards...tr

Here you go Tommy. You are lucky to have access to him. I can't say if he's ever been up this way. I find his style groovy and accessible.

Hey PappaC...Laboriel is my favorite bass player of all times. That is a rather mild clip of him...I mean that guy can cut a rug with that bass...and he mostly plays a 8 string bass and he plays many kinds of music...I mean from gospel to jazz to you name it He is a very popular studio musician. Have you seen him cut a rug...feet kicking all up in the air and stuff? He has a son that also plays the drums. Do you have any Bootsie ?

    frenchmon

    Edit...thats 5 string bass

I've got a few of those gospel concerts on DVD with Ron Kenoly with Laboriel . I have a few others with him as well. I also have a Jazz CD that Laboriel put out with his son on drums and Justo Almario...good stuff.
