i always got the impression that wahlburg figured out that damon was the rat and since it was damon's fault that wahlburg's mentor (sheen) was tossed off the roof, then he got his own street justice by taking out damon.

And what was in the envelope that DiCaprio gave Damon's girlfriend? I mean really... What was the point of that whole scene?

It was a tell-all note. Don't forget, she was a cop too. I took it to mean she went to Wahlberg who then took revenge out on Damon for Sheen.

I thought it was operatic as hell. Great movie, you hater-guys all take how hard it is to make a movie like this for granted.

Yeah, I figured it was just the same thing he sent directly to Sullivan, a back-up copy. Only he wasn't ready to approach Sullivan with it yet.

And Troy -- good analogy, opera. It was very opera-like, the ending was.

    Scorsese vs. Seagal

I think that just about anyone would much rather be Scorsese's butler than Seagal, especially since Scorsese is a far more reputable name in cinema. Plus, I only provided basic information about Scorsese and his films, rather than talk about private aspects of his life, his website, admit to owning all of his films, and it's not my fault that you are in love with him.

    Scorsese Vs. Seagal Round 2

In 1974 Martin Scorsese made the film ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE.
Steven Seagal's version would be called KELLY LEBROCK DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE.

In 1976 Scorsese made a groundbreaking film called TAXI DRIVER.
If Steven Seagal makes one more bomb of a film he will be driving taxi's.

In 1980 Scorsese made one of the greatest films ever made called RAGING BULL.
When Kelly Lebrock called the cops for being beaten by Seagal she likened Seagal to that of a raging bull.

Scorsese made a few films in the 1980's, a few comedies, one called AFTER HOURS and another called THE KING OF COMEDY.
Seagal has also made a few comedies, mostly every movie he made from 1985-2007.

Scorsese is single handedly re-invented the gangster genre with MEAN STREETS, GOODFELLAS, and CASINO.
Seagal single handedly destroyed the Martial Arts genre with his pathetic ponytail and lame one-liners.

Scorsese directed the music video "BAD".
Seagal made many movies also called "BAD".

Scorsese made a film called BRINGING OUT THE DEAD.
Listening to Seagal's band is often called "WAKING THE DEAD".

Scorsese has never won an Oscar for best actor.
Seagal has never won an Oscar for best actor.

Scorsese has devoted much of his life to film preservation.
Seagal has devoted his life to film desecration.

Scorsese taught Oliver Stone and Spike Lee at NYU.
Seagal thinks he taught the Japanese how to fight.

Scorsese has been an Oscar nominee numerous times as well as Golden Globes and has pages worth of awards and achievements.
    Seagal has a few Razzies.

LOL! You're grasping at straws, trying to make me look silly, because I like Seagal's movies! You're just making yourself look ridiculous and immature.
Maybe Gallagher will hire you as one of his writers.

Not everybody likes the same movies! Don't get all bent out of shape, because I didn't like The Departed, and because I do like Seagal movies! Just move on and enjoy whatever movies you enjoy..............

Wow, I just rewatched The Departed on DVD tonight and y'all might have to put me in the hater camp. Call me a snob or a philistine, whichever you prefer-- I've had worse. Upon seeing this in the theater, my first impression was that this was a good effort from Scorsese that didn't quite work for me for various reasons, but on second viewing it seems positively sunk by those flaws. Damon and especially DiCaprio keep things electric when they're onscreen, but man, Nicholson is in full-on ham mode and Vera Farmiga is just cringe-worthy. I can't understand how William Monahan stole the Oscar for this, either-- just about every idea that doesn't involve colorful language and ethnic humor was already present in Infernal Affairs. And say what you will about Scorsese's direction-- the man's a master, one of my favorites of all time, no question-- but this movie is an hour too long and the editing in the setup sequences just stinks. [entering rant mode] And can somebody tell me why "Gimme Shelter" and the Dropkick Murphys' "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" are both in this twice? [/rant]

This certainly wasn't the worst movie of 2006, but for my money it's no masterpiece. And can I ask honestly-- how many of you who are singing its praises have seen Infernal Affairs?

Ah I love the smell of napalm in the morning...

Worf pulls up seat and munches popcorn with real butter. Refills cup of blood wine and chortles as StarFleet pukes argue over movies. He's stunned to see a pony-tailed, butter ball squinting in the corner of the room.... Segal?

i saw it last year and did a review on it here! i loved it and still enjoyed the departed. the only thing that got me about the oscars, is while i can see adapting a book to a script being worthy of an oscar, but adapting a script in chinese to a script in english.... actually was going to rent them both and watch side by side since it had been a while since i saw infernal affairs and really compare 'em.

What? A fight? JSE raises up out of his hung-over state. Aw shucks! Flamed out before it ever got going good.

For the record, I will shamefully admit to liking Segal movies. Bad acting, bad plots, bad everything, but good ol' butt kicking is good ol' butt kicking and I like it!

There is no doubt that Martin Scorsese uses the ROLLING STONES in his films more than he does Robert DeNiro. Not only that, he has used GIMME SHELTER a few times, which is sorta become a trademark. Although it certainly can be annoying at times, it's his signature I suppose.

Put some pants on man... it's distractin' . LOL as for Steven 'the Squinter" Segal, pheh there's worse out there than him, though not much. Hey mindless fun is mindless fun. Sometime a movie is just a movie!

I watched "The Departed" last night. I was underwhelmed, totally. I like "Gangs of New York" much more and I feel that this is about the weakest Scorcese film I've ever seen. Jack was miscast and way over the top, the plot was pedestrian and obvious except for one twist at the end. The only thing I liked about the film, believe it or not, was DiCaprio's performance.

I was stunned. I loved it. It was great. I didn't know he had it in him. Jack could take some lesson's from the kid on how to underplay a role just right. Best Picture??? Pheh.... "Little Miss Sunshine" was almost Wellsian in stature compared to that underwhelming turd. Hell I can make a movie where'n everybody get's shot in the head. Damn. He got an Oscar for that?
