I'm not sure what the significance of the book to the show is...or if there even is one. But the significance of the book in last weeks episode is because Sawyer was seen reading Watership Down while on the beach in Season One. So I think that showing it this week was just another parallel between island life and LA life.
i thought that little point was fantastic. and, have to go back again to check, didn't he say he 'found it'? (or was that, the "hey God it's me Margaret" book?) but Watership Down ended up being his. i was trying to see the spines of the books under it to see if the other books he 'found' on the island were all really his the whole time.
