These might not be among the best films, but their opening scene are among the most memorable.

Not in any particular order:

Cliffhanger (1993): The cry and scream of the girl was heartwrenching as she loses her grip on Sylvester Stallone and goes plunging down into the canyon gully.

Bad Boys (1995): The movie start with a bang with a catchy soundtrack and top notch editing as Martin Lawrence joke about Will Smith's $105,000 car with no cup holder.

Patton (1970): Even the TV show Sanford & Son took the parody of the opening scene from this film..

Same can be said of Bad Boys. It start on such a high octane note that rest of the film could not match.

"Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind" - Sun, heat, desert... planes that disappeared over 30 years earlier.

"Enemy At the Gates" - The harrowing boat ride to Stalingrad, to almost certain death.

"Battan" - Beaten American and Filipina troops bombed and strafed by Japanese planes.

"X-Men" - Eric Lencher watches his parents taken to be gassed by the Nazi's and his attempt to do something about it.

"Predators" - Adrien Brody dropping out of the sky!

I have not seen Battan, but the rest are pretty good suggestions. Opening scenes in Jaws and Saving Private Ryan from Spielberg was pretty good also.

While I was putting this thread together, I also thought of doing a thread on best of James Bond film opening scenes. But can't remember every opening scenes from JB movies. I think I'm getting too old :D

The opening scene from Antichrist is pretty amazing. It's practically a movie unto itself.
