I was rewinding my tape, and watched the closing scene of last week's episode again. Something that didn't really register the first time around... and just goes to show how great the writers are at building suspence and how great the acting is...three people get shot, two die, and not one drop of blood is shown.

Ana-Lucia's bullet lands below the TV line. Libby is holding a burlap bag of something in front of her. The very last scene is Michael shooting himself. You see the flash of the gun, but the screen goes black before the bullet hits him.

    Amazing.

Edit: Hey, check out this screen cap from last week. I would have never caught this on my own. Totally wacky! http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x20/copcars.jpg

Did you catch the commercial again? What a great way to talk to the viewers without compromising the actual show. Just brilliant. I'm trying to get on to www.sublymonal.com. It's been loading for just over 10 minutes now. I guess half of North America must be trying to get onto this site.

Edit: Myohmyohmy. Lost sites crashing all over the place. I can't get on to LostTV-forum.com, Thehansofoundation.org, or sublymonal.com. ...and the fans go crazy!

    I have a new theory…it’s a long one, so get comfortable…

We know, without a doubt that there are many experiments going on on the island and that The Hanso Foundation is behind them. I believe that The Others are all employees of THF. They may not have all started out that way. Some of them just landed on the island by boat or plane or balloon or any other possible way, but some of those people who landed on the island, ended up as part of THF.

THF is conducting work that they believe is VERY important. They can’t allow that work to be compromised. So, when someone lands on the island, they have to check the new people out. When it’s appropriate, they may choose to let people in on what they are doing. But of course, they must choose carefully who they let into their fold. So they send in spies. They study the group. They take the people that they want and that they believe will be open to helping their cause. Whatever the cause is, it requires some sort of personal sacrifice which is why they only take the “good” people. People that they believe would be willing to make a personal sacrifice for the greater good. That leaves out people like Sawyer, and Jack, and Kate….people who are too selfish and controlling to allow themselves to be led; people who are too independent; people who think only of themselves first. It also leaves out people like Hurley; Libby; Charlie; and Danielle…drug addicts and the mentally unstable.

The people who have seen what THF is up to are very committed to the work being done. Committed enough to die for it and, if needed, to kill for it. Ethan, Goodwin and Fake-Henry were all put in this position. FH gave us a lot of insight to The Others. We know that there is one man in charge. A man that FH described as Brilliant and obviously looked up to. But while he looked up to this man he was also very afraid of him, pointing out that He will kill FH for failing his mission of getting Locke. Yet, as afraid as FH was, he was committed enough to the cause to die before telling any secrets. He endured Sayid’s torture and he thought on many occasions that The Losties were going to kill him. Through it all, he maintained his story of being Henry and even when he was found out, he gave nothing away.

So, that brings me to Locke. Why do they want Locke? Well, if I’m a scientist and I know that there was some guy who landed on the island in a wheelchair, but now he can walk like the wheelchair never existed, I’d want to meet this person and conduct my own experiments to see what the hell was going on. Locke’s ability to walk has something to do with the “power” of the island. THF needs to confirm the data and they need Locke to do it.

The children were taken to be protected. The Others are compassionate human beings. They have resources that The Losties don’t have. They took the children because they believe that they are in a better position to protect and raise the children; keep them out of harms way; keep them sheltered and fed. It’s better to live in a clean shelter with regular food drops and, most importantly, a controlled environment, than living on a beach where people and the elements are unpredictable.

I also think that, although the electronic equipment that we’ve seen in the hatches is old and outdated, there is more modern equipment being used for the scientific research. We know that supplies can be dropped onto the island, and that a new washer and dryer are in the hatch. That washer and dryer set is there for a reason. It’s a clue that not everything on the island is 20+ years old.

The most important part of this theory is that the people who land on the island can’t be allowed to leave the island. Any attempt to leave will be sabotaged. There are a lot of strange things happening on the island. If someone were to get off of the island and back to civilization and told the authorities what they had experienced they might be written off as crazy and delusional, or someone might take them seriously and investigate. THF does not want their work being investigated. Not until it’s complete.
They are going through a lot of effort to protect what they are doing. The island’s security measures, the secrecy of who they are, the warning to Jack to not cross the line. When the raft was attacked, they could have taken Walt but left the raft intact. They didn’t have to blow it up, but they did. Why? Because if Sawyer, Jin and Michael were saved, then the experiments were at risk.

So, discuss amongst yourself and poke your holes. I know that there’s still a lot of unexplained things, but I think that I’m on to something. Tell me otherwise…

Wow, great theory, FA....I pretty much came up with a very similar one to that. In fact, eerily similar...my only "expansion" was that there's something msystic, or scientifically special about the Island, and certain people have an affinity to this specialness. Walt, Locke, Hurley...I also think that THF's reach is global, and a lot of seeds were planted to get all these people (or many of them at least) to Australia and on Flight 815...(or the Island drew them...bad karma, whatever)...

But who knows, they'll throw a wrench in the works next week and we'll have to come up with something else.

What a great episode...can't wait for next week

I had that thought too. I thought that might be why THF is on that specific island and why they're so protective of it. But I haven't decided whether the island has its own mystical powers, or whether the powers are man-made, manufactured by THF or Widmore Labs, and whether THF is doing their research on these manufactured "powers".

My theory, at this point, only includes the things that I was fairly certain of. Since I don't know what is being researched and why, I chose to leave those details out for now. But it's cool that your theory and mine are so similar.

well if this does turn out to be the mother of all mcguffins, then hitchcock himself would be very proud.

the only problem with a rationale explanation is all the irrational things going on that have brought these particular people to the island. that's what i loved about the brilliant writing. we are sharing locke's pov in seeing how the island is this magical place at first, (his whole line to jack: you're a man of science jack, i'm a man of faith). but then locke loses his faith in the island and after discovering the Pearl Station and watching that video, has had enough, no longer believes. Understandably so too, given what the video said (again with one strategically placed section messed up). Are they all just rats in a maze and given tasks that may or may not have meaning, the importance of which isnt the execution of the task, but the observation of their execution of that task? Certainly seems that way. But then Eko tells locke his story... and seriously, it's rather hard (to take even eko's own language) to mistake coincidence and fate here. His brother dies and takes off in a plane from nigeria and crash lands on this island. Eko ends up in australia (travelling with the missionary?) and meets a girl who had a death/near death experience and tells him about his dead brother who he will see again, gets on a plane and crashes on that same island and eventually sees his brother.... is that coincidence, or is that fate? is it coincidence that the numbers have connected everyone on that island (eko's passport
    http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x21/ekoPassport.jpg
4, 8, 15, 16, 23 are all on his passport) or is it fate or even something greater, devine intervention-esque that is bringing these particular people to this island?

now to combine both, that it isnt a mcguffin, but THF is investigating this island, that this island has some sort of power that THF has tapped in to wit hthe dharma initiative and they are willing to protect it at all costs because of some info they've found out about the island...

    OK.... another issue:

The Pearl Station Orientation Video: i'm gonna have to see it again (haha) but i'm pretty sure they were using green screen in that video. When marvin cambell/mark whitman (why'd he change his name?) was standing in front of the video screens in the pearl station, they were using green screen on the actual tv screens. now they've had green screen compositing around for awhile (was used in star wars) but why would they use it here? it seems rather like overkill when it would have been far easier to just show the screens, especially since the technology was still being tested and refined (hell it still is now). and using green screen for video (at that time in the 80's) was horrible, video resolution just is not capable of effective green screen use (getting verrrrry technical now) but just seems a little odd to have done that, unless i just saw it wrong and it wasnt green screen.

    And the printout log: http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x21/printout.jpg

apparently is logged every 108 minutes.... interesting... and the numbers that repeat in the sequence on the printout in this case are: 17 05 53 41 29

hmmm more questions.... how could they do that after all this time of not-so-many questions!??

    Well...

...Michael has his own agenda...rescuing Walt...I'm not sure if it goes any further than that...I think he was truly sorry when he shot AL (and actually said so to her before the fact), but sacrifices must be made...If Jack or Locke had been left to tend FH might the same have happened? Altohough I think neither of them would have handed over the gun...the look on his face after he shot Libby looked to be "OMIGOD! What have I done?" She was in the wrong place, at the wrong time and his was simply a knee-jerk reaction...He had the fertilizer scared out of him when there was the possibility she might reveal him as the shooter, when she died he knew his secret was safe and his plan to get Walt, to foment attack and retribution on the Others, would continue.

FH dangled a carrot in front of Locke and he (Locke) was losing his way...Finding the observation room as a resut of after Eko"s dream may have snapped him back...

P.S. Am I mistaken or was there a camera focused on the observers? They had their own pnuematic tube task to comply with...who wuz wachin' the watchers?

    jimHJJ(...Invasion is gettin' interesting BTW...)
Hello, I'm a misanthrope...don't ask me why, just take a good look around.

"Men would rather believe than know" -Sociobiology: The New Synthesis by Edward O. Wilson

"The great masses of the people...will more easily fall victims to a great lie than to a small one" -Adolph Hitler

"We are never deceived, we deceive ourselves" -Goethe

If you repeat a lie often enough, some will believe it to be the truth...

Yessir...there's a Peeping Tom at Pearl Station....But was it all being recorded? Or just live broadcasts? Maybe they'll use recordings to see who was there before?? To learn the truth about Michael?

An afterthought guys...I'm even more sure that the Swan Station isn't just a meaningless experiment. If it were, why would FH have worked so hard to get to the terminal and enter in the number sequence (or do whatever he did)... unless the Others are lab rats too?

FH claims that he didn't push the button. Could he have been just following Locke's instructions just to gain Locke's trust? Remember also, that he claims that his mission was to get Locke and take him back to The Others. A dead Locke isn't a very valuable Locke. FH was scared. He needed Locke.

I think that Walt is a carrot being dangled in front of Micheal. Michael was on a quest to help FH escape, no matter the cost (AL's life, his own arm, Libby was an accident). Perhaps he was told, you get us Henry back and we'll give you Walt. Michael will do anything to protect his son, as any parent would do. The Others know that and now have an opportunity to exploit it and use Michael for their own advantage. He definately has an agenda, but is it his agenda or that of The Others?

I think that's it, the Others started out as lab rats...they just didn't know it until later.

The video shows how the tube will transport the logs to "us." So if I'm Locke and Eko, I'm following that tube. It can't be that far otherwise it wouldn't maintain sufficient pressure, right?

The montage at the beginning was intersting. It showed pics of a dead body floating in the current, the dirty feet walking by while dragging a teddy bear, the Dharma Swan logo, and a bunch of misc. other stuff. I went frame by frame on the Tivo but didn't find anything shocking. Eko's back story was awesome, but I'm bummed we're never going to see Libby's story, especially after they she intervened at the airport. .

Great episode! Next week's looks terrific as well.

Huh?! I never noticed that he only had one arm. The video is on one of the sites that I have bookmarked at home. I'll have to go back and watch it again.

Maybe one of THF's experiments is cloning and Marvin was a mistake who ended up with only one arm, but Mark turned out okay.

that might be a "bad twin" reference from the book too, who knows. but when you watch it, at the beginning of the swan station film, you'll see marvin's left arm is just the sleeve with nothing in it, and when he walks over to demonstrate the control room, you can see there's no arm. also when he does the nameste at the end, he only uses one hand, whereas you can clearly see mark has both his arms in the pearl orientiation video.

the plot, as they say, thickens.....

    Tonight is....
    "Three Minutes"
A determined Michael convinces Jack and several castaways to help him rescue Walt from "The Others." Meanwhile, Charlie struggles with Eko's decision to discontinue building the church.

some new observations that have been brought to my attention from talking to another lostie friend:

    1. nice lil fun tidbit, at the end credits of MI3, JJ Abrams thanks the Hanso Foundation.

    2. when claire went to see the pyschic and found out about the adoptive parents, she requested that they sing a song to the baby. when claire was in the hatch with ethan and pushed the button for the baby in the crib, the song played was that song she requested.

    3. the widmore corporation's logo was also in the background of charlie's music video (the one where they are in the crib in diapers).

    4. does anyone remember how locke knew sawyer's real name was james ford? did he say he saw the name on the passenger manifest? that's what i thought he said, but how would he know that james ford was sawyer? he could see the manifest and know that there is no sawyer on the list, so that's fine, he'd know sawyer was lying about his name, but how did know, of all the names missing, that 'james ford' was the one that belonged to sawyer?

    Love it! That's classic.

Only 1 hr and 15 minutes to go! That's right kiddies, I'm watching the 7:00 showing tonight so that I can watch the Amazing Race finale with Hubby, from 8 - 10.

I'll tape the 9:00 Lost on ABC though, so that I can review for Hanso commercials. Besides, I love to see the look on Hubby's face when I watch it at 7:00 and then tell him that I'm taping it at 9:00. He rolls his eyes and shakes his head in such a way that is just sooooo cute.

I get to see it before you. Na na na na na (read in a child's singsong voice).

alrighty then..... so..... another boat is drawn to the island... seemingly empty sailboat or will we have yet another connection, perhaps its hurley's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roomate. and do we REALLY get to find out what made the plane crash or will they find a way to explain it without explaining it.... a good episode, but defn more of a setup for the finale then anything else. got to see more of the others, AND a lil more information on those lists. so the others must have blackmailed the people to go and take the 9 from the tailies camp that first night just like they did with michael... and then good 'ol walt... they're not what they seem to be huh... interesting... and the boat... and supposedly desmond makes his return next episode...

So many ideas going through my head about the boat. Is it a coincidence that Michael asked for a boat then, suddenly, one begins to float towards the island?

As for finding out why the plane crashed...I'm sure that whatever is revealed, it won't answer your questions...it'll only raise more.

Kam, I don't understand what you're saying about people being blackmailed to take the 9 tailies from their camp. Don't you think that was The Others kidnapping them? For some reason The Others don't want to just take the Fusies. Maybe they feel that the Fusies are too organized now, there's too many of them and they'll fight back harder than the Tailies were able to. Besides, the Fusies are armed. The Tailies weren't. And, according to Goodwin, the Tailies were taken because they were "good". We know that the four Fusies that The Others are after are no saints. So, what do they want with our four lead characters? I'll bet that after next week, we still won't know the answer to that one.

And, Charlie took the serum. That is going to have significance at some point, I'm sure.

Did you catch the new web site listed on the Hanso Commercial? www.letyourcompassguideyou.com. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

What can I say? This episode left us with a zillion more questions...there's no way they're gonna answer them all for us in 2 hours next week....we'll be pulling our hair out all summer waiting for season 3.

Who the heck is Ms. Clue?
