    Dance based movies

How 'bout movies based on dance crazes?

Not all dance based movies are built upon the shakey firmament of fad, but rarely are any of them elevated higher than the level of guilty pleasure.

Saturday Night Fever might not have been the first movie to cover a dance craze, but at least it was successful in creating some memorable characters and a halfway decent storyline. That being said, it was guilty of opening the floodgates for this style of movie:

Roller Boogie starring Linda Blair. Man oh man, was this girl ever over-rated as an actress. Hollywood was calling her the next Sally Field after The Exorcist broke box-office records, but by time that Exorcist II came out, the jig was up. She was lucky to be doing anything, including lead actress in a story about a fad that was over the minute they finished production on this movie (though I think the fad made its way into an episode of CHiPs). Roller Boogie is every bit the crapfest the name implies.

Not a big fan of the genre, but as long as you're pullin' rabbits, how about Strictly Ballroom?
