Oregon Coast Audio Meet or GTG

Located on the beautiful Central Oregon Coast in the quaint town of Lincoln City.
    http://www.oregoncoast.org/home.php

This event wouldn't be possible without the generous offer of Average Joe to offer his brand new home.
(even after my wife had a chance to speak to Joe's wife)

    Saturday October 10th

Equipment setup and calibration on Friday October 9th.
Additional listening and breakdown Sunday Ocotber 11th.

The primary focus of this event will be floorstanding/tower speakers

So far we have VERY generous sponsorship from:

    Salk Sound
    http://www.salksound.com/

    Audioholics Home Theater Store
    http://store.audioholics.com/

    Audio by Van Alstine
    http://www.avahifi.com/

    And many more to come!

Both Jim Salk and Frank Van Alstine have committed to attending the event!

We will gladly welcome any gear or speakers attendees wish to bring! The more the merrier!!!!

We already have a pretty impressive list of speakers and gear committed. Some items I don't want to let know so early since they are not in stone. But let's just say you won't be seeing these things at you're local HiFi store anytime soon!

This will also be one of the absolute best opportunities to ever see this many different types of Salk Sound speakers in one place. All brought by their owners.

Please feel free to send me a PM for more information and to sign up.
For those wishing to sign up, please include in the message your real name, where you are traveling from and what equipment you wish to bring.

I am also running a couple other thread on the event:

    http://forums.audioholics.com/forums...ad.php?t=53440
    http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/i...2678#msg602678

I'm a moderator over at Audioholics, so I can keep track of and edit that thread more often. Please feel free to check out that thread for more info that include equipment/speakers that are already promised.

Well, Oct is a long way away, and I hope to have some Salk v3s by then already, but coming up to Oregon for some great sound and then hit up some of the local trails sounds like a plan. I'll be there too!

We'll save a place for ya'!

This is turning into an excellent opportunity to not only audition Salk speakers, but get a chance to talk to Jim Salk himself about your pair. I can't wait to see the new top secret "HT4's" he's bringing along.

Where will you be coming from? We've got people from all over the place committing the the event. Heck, the wife and I are coming from Florida just to help out the guys running this.

We will also have Sean from Skiing Ninja Audio showing his mods for a pair of AV123 Ref 3 towers. He will be preforming his mods on one of the attendee's speakers to show the difference upgrades in cabinet deadening and higher quality crossovers can achieve.

It's been awhile since I've made any updates, but we've got a ton of gear and a whole bunch of sponsors. The list of gear is just too extensive to list and some stuff just can't be announced since we'll be the debut showing.

But here's an updated list of sponsors:

    Audioholics Home Theater Store

    Audio by Van Alstine

    Engineered Music Products (EMP)

And this doesn't include all of the gear attendees are bringing!!!!

    Bumpity, bump, bump.

We're trying to update all of the lists this weekend and contact all who have responded. So far there is over 70 people signed up and many more sponsors. Hopefully I'll get the equipment list finalized next week.

If you're interested, please send a PM along with a contact e-mail and the number in you party ASAP. We will be having lunch catered on Saturday so an accurate headcount is important.

I've been kicking around the idea of a bunch of us driving down to Newport, OR to visit the Rogue Ales Public House:

    http://www.rogue.com

I don't know about you, but when I see that many beer taps on the wall it just poses a challenge waiting to be taken up.

I was thinking about either Friday evening after setup or Saturday around dinner time. Let me know what you think.

    Audio Meet

I am recently moved to Vancouver Area and have heard of your Audio meet in Liincoln City. My wife and I would love to visit the Audio show if it is open to the general public. How can I find out more details? Since I haven't seen any public advertising I'm not sure how open this is to others. Is there registration required? costs? Where in Lincoln is it being held?

I have attended RMAF for the past several years in Denver. Great Show. Excited about discovering Lincoln City Oregon Coast Meet. Thanks for info. I would send PM but just joined this forum today and haven't posted enough yet to send PM.

    You Snooze, You Lose

Sorry, but the attendee list is now closed.

Those who have already contacted me with RSVP's should have already received directions and a schedule for the weekend. I will be sending out e-mails on Monday just to check in with everybody and make sure you have the directions. We also want to make sure we have names correct for the nametags our host is making. The final attendee list on Audioholics and Audio Circle forums will be updated this weekend. There's still plenty of opportunities for carpools if you wish to contact each other.

We look forward to meeting everybody next weekend. We have a full house of people and a ton of gear to make it through in just one weekend.

Well, the event with off without a hitch. To those who came, I hope you had a good time. To our sponsors, Thank You!

I have started a "wrap up" thread that include a link to a Phtobucket account. All of the attendees and sponsors have been loading their pictures into the account for everybody to see.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like it was hell of an event.

Quick question, I saw this little number in the photos - you remember how it sounded?

Well, it was good enough that I have a set coming next week.

Those speakers were a big hit. Very accurate and great sound in a small package. We even used the little amp to power a bunch of different speakers just to see what it could do. The 40 wpc was plenty of power for most speakers. And since the design engineer was there, I got to find out all the poop on the amp and speakers. The amp was designed with a tube pre and solid state amp. The idea was to mellow out the edges from compressed music. The whole set was design as an executive desktop set.

Interesting. So what you are saying is it probably great for pop music, streaming, and mp3s, versus your CDs or LPs. Like you wouldn't want it for you main system, but for, like you said, at work. What about headphone adapter? At our office headphones are the preferred speaker set up.

I would be very interested in hearing that.

By chance, since you have AVA and Salk there, did you see/ask/hear any differences in opinion on cables and power, between the manufacturers?

My little desktop set from EMP/RBH just arrived. I'll have a chance this weekend to really put it through the tests. I was originally going to bring it to work, but decided some idiot would just play with it when I wasn't in my office or the janitors would monkey with it. So it's going on my small computer desk at home. It'll look better on the granite desktop at home anyway.

Funny thing is that most will always say there is nothing special with wire. But they will say there is differences in amps and source equipment. We had a chance to comare the AVA gear to the ModWright gear. Though they were both awesome setups, but Jim Salk prefers the AVA gear "sound".

I get a laugh when you look at the power cords on AVA gear. Nothing special and they are permanently attached. He doesn't want you monkey'n around or replacing them. What the gear comes with is good enough.

    I wish I could go!

I live in Iowa now but I live on the Oregon coast for 28 years. I was born in Coos Bay Oregon and lived a 2 miles from the beach most of my life.
I'll go back and visit some day I hope.
If you never been there enjoy.
