So has anyone ever did the following test:

Swap cables in some way while recording the playback from the speakers into some sort of digital recorder, then analyze the results of the recording?

I suppose it would show changes in the measurements that maybe the human ear can hear, or not.

you wouldn't have to do that while recording - just hit pause on the recording software and than record - it would be pretty easy to put it through a whole host of analysis software - but just that alone wouldn't tell you much unless you really have a grasp of all the possible meanings.

It would be interesting to see - though you'd have to make the analysis into movies maybe - since music is representing through time.

    humm.......

Makes me wish for the days when I still had Peak on my Mac. That had a lot of cool spectral analysis stuff.
