Switching cables again, back to Goertz

Periodically I become dissatisfied with the cables in my system. Last night I was spinning some vinyl and I became tired of the peaky treble and thin sound so the Audioquest King Cobras had to go. I also tried them with the Marantz SA8001 and just have to admit I do not like them. Back in place was the MicroPurl IC's and Sassy sounded like she should sound. Later that night I realized I had not tried the Goertz MI1's in this system. I planned today to make the switch.

In my system of the Onkyo integrated amp and the Mobile Fidelity OML1's the MI1's made the highs sound very rolled off. I am not sure why but they did not work well in the combination.

Last night while listening and thinking about going back to single wiring I realized I was not sure if the woofer and midrange were on one set of inputs or it was the midrange and tweeter. So I pulled the positive high frequency wire and both the midrange and tweeter were silent. Today when I wired the speakers with the MI1's I put the jumpers in place and connected the wire to the high frequency inputs and let the jumpers carry the signal to the woofer. This way the signal is more direct to the midrange/upper woofer and tweeter.

Today the MA RS6's are singing sweetly. Glad to have all Goertz Alpha Core cables back in the system. The greatest adjective to describe the improvement is coherence. Now I have some AudioQuest to unload.

After a legthy listening session last night I think some of the improvement of the MI1's over the AudioQuest Slates has to do with the guage of the cables. Bass is better controlled possibly due to the 13 guage of the MI1's single cable vs the AudioQuest Slates being biwires cables and divided between the low and high frequencies. The
MI1's also do a better job with image focus and seperation between performers.

I am glad I realized I had not tried these cables with the Krell integrated amp and the Monitor Audio speakers. They seem to be a very good match for the system.

I received a set of Alpha Core TQ-2 interconnects as a Father's Day gift. They replaced the Monster M-1000i cables from my Marantz SA-8001, which I'd been pleased with. The difference is simply astonishing: everything sounds better: smoother highs (especially strings); more "oomph" to woodwinds, cellos and lower voices; deeper and far better defined bass: superb imaging, and a far deeper and wider soundstage. All of this from just a set of cables. Wow!

Yes they are excellent! I am glad I have system synergy with their speaker cables again. The textures of instruments is much more audible but not over done. Every improvement you noted I am in agreement.
