Red face Jon Risch speaker cable is selling for $10-15/ft by cable venders.

And one vender is selling them at $195 for a minimum of 5 foot, and 15/ft there after. That is almost $40/ft!!

JR said that he does not get any financial gain by venders selling his cable. I don't know if I should believe him or not. But looking at the how business world is conducted, a business have to pay royalties/rights before marketing somebody else's design.

But also to be fair here, JR does give compete instruction on how to make his cables (on his web site) by DIY it yourself by buying $2/ft 89259 Belden Cables.

One is not forced by law to charge royalties.

Now, if he chooses to enforce the issue that's another story.

I doubt he ever patented his cable or copyright it.

He might have lost some financial gain if he hasn't. And if he does receive some royalties, that will put him in an uncomfortable position as a moderator. That is if anybody find out

His cable recipe is pretty much in the common domain. Even if he had patented the design, his detailed DIY instructions would make his case pretty murky. Given his extensive postings on the subject, I doubt he could even charge for the use of his name if the cables adhere to his recipes.

If any of these cable makers sent him money, it would be entirely voluntary. If you accept the axiom that a business is in business to make money, there's no reason to think he's received very much money, if any at all.

I use his cables and am very pleased. I have no interest in upgrading. I wouldn't pay these prices, because it's not that difficult to construct them yourself. It is however, labor intensive. It takes some time. If you don't so it yourself, you have to pay someone to do it for you. With the exception of the $40/ft speaker cables you cite, I don't think the costs are out of line with the labor involved. High? Yes. Outrageous? No.
