Have you tried contacting Yamaha ? Just a thought. Most companies keep records of specs.

I'll second that in motion and also ask...Anamorphic...how are you enjoying your new speakers and when do we get a nice thorough review?

Many Yamaha user manuals can be found by searching here ...

http://www.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/search.php?div=av
However I don't see the M-50, although they have the M-40, -45, and -60: are you sure you have the right model number?

hi everyone

yes, i've searched high and low (even at yamaha's site).

i found a guy selling an m50 and it's preamp and receiver WITH all the manuals on ebay and he said he'd copy it for me (i offered to pay) but he never came through, and i even contacted the buyer about getting/paying for a copy but they never responded.

there was also an m50 on a belgium ebay site that mentioned some specs but - i can't read dutch and i lost the page....

yeah, it's strange that it isn't on the yamaha site. all the back panel shots i've seen for their other m series amps list 4 ohm ratings (but not mine) so that's why i'm hesitant..
(mine says 8-16 ohms over the speaker terminals)

i have an older yamaha integrated amp (ca 810??) that i'm using the preamp out of and going into the m-50 running a pair of ads L570's and they sounded amazing.

i have a friend that works at bose, and when i fired them up he was startled at how good it all sounded.

i have 2 pairs of ADS 570's, a pair of L620s, a pair of L1s, a pair of L300cs, a pair of L470s, 2 pairs of L200s, and my new set of L710s.

i guess you could say i'm an ads freak... i find the yamaha/ads a great combination.

i design sound fx (also a pro drummer) and used to beta test a lot of (mac) audio software before i moved and bought a house, and i'm just getting my studio up and running after 5 years.

i also just found an old integrated eico hf81 tube amp i didn't realize i had but i'm going to have that modified so i can use it as a mic preamp going into my mixer when i do recording sessions so i can get that warm tube sound when i record digital tracks in the computer.

I can't help you with the paperwork, but be glad for your purchase! Any member of the M-series is well worth having. Good sound, not too expensive. I have an M-35 myself, and I just love it.

yeah, i like it a lot, but here's something interesting:

http://www.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/result.php

m 40 specs:

8 ohms - 120w
6 ohms - 145w
4 ohms - 170w
also has an auto class a switch. when off it functions as class a/b amp

m 45 specs:

8 ohms - 125w
6 ohms - 150w
4 ohms - 180w
also has an auto class a switch when off it functions as class a/b amp

--------------------
M 50: (my amp)

does not have an auto class a switch. (m40, 45 & 60 do)

no specs listed at yamaha's site for the m 50.
(because this whole universe is against me) ;)

--------------------

m 60 specs:

8 ohms - 160w
6 ohms - 185w
4 ohms - 210w
also has auto class a switch. when off it functions as class a/b amp
also has ohm load selector switches to adjust meters for 2, 4, or 8 ohm loads

is the m-50 a yamaha "black sheep" (because there are no specs listed...)?

well, if you're able to find the page (maybe in your internet history or so) post the link, I'm from belgium, translating dutch to english is no problem at all :)

Keep them spinning,
Bert.

hi bert

i'm sure i can't find it on the belgium site as it is probably at least 2 weeks old and i have no idea where i came across the link (google maybe?), but i have an excerpt from it that i asked a friend to translate (but they never got back to me) so maybe you can translate it.

i don't know if the guy is quoting fro the manual or talking off the top of his head.

> Deze high-end Yamaha is echt als nieuw, 100% in orde.
> Het is een zware, knappe versterker die tot op 2 ohm stabiel blijft.
> Wie dus twee paar 4 ohm (of ook 8 ohm natuurlijk) boxen heeft die afzonderlijk het
> vermogen van deze eindtrap niet zouden aankunnen, kan deze gewoon samen aansluiten.

No need for basite, Uncle JRA is here to help. I can read a bit of Dutch, no problem. Please excuse my bad grammar. If you can't read what I write then that's your problem. :)

These endend end Yamaha are real as new, 100% in order. It is a heavy, nice amplifier which remains up to on 2 ohm stable. He who therefore two couples of 4 ohm (or ohm also 8 of course) would manage boxes that separately the capacity of this end staircase, these can connect simply together.

You are very welcome.

btw, just try this site for translation.

ha!

well, it's hopeful, but i can't be 100% sure he (the dutch guy) is quoting fact.

the dutch translates oddly. i get the gist of it though.

what's MORE odd is that there are no specs for the m-50 on yamaha's site,
but specs for the models before it and after it, all of which have class a switches on them (the m-50 doesn't).

i don't want to make the wrong assumption that it is ok down to 4 ohms, especially when the back plate printing over the speaker terminals says 8-16 ohms.

If the link is unusable, it points to a page on Yahoo Japan auctions. There is a Yamaha B-50 amp for sale that looks exactly like the M-50.

that English is very odd indeed, no need to say the translation site translates a little to litteraly :)
Dutch isn't that weird, only the translator site thinks it is, and then it will translate every word seperately, and it won't care about grammar...

the ebay guy tells that that it is a high end amp, like new, and that it's heavy, and beautiful, and stays stable till 2ohms, so you could use 2 pairs of 4ohm speakers (or 8 ohm speakers) together without having problems and blah blah blah

oh yeah, 'eindtrap' is a dutch word for 'power amp'

Keep them spinning,
Bert.
