It's a very nice amplifier, very powerful, warm presentation and with good (not very but anyway better than average) details, soundstage is wide too. In his respect the previous Onkyo A-9355 is a real TOY.

Clearly it needs very bright speakers, sometimes it's like it got overly warm. With mine actual speakers (Energy C-100) I have to tune down the bass knob and tune up the treble knob but anyway the result is OK.

Nice purchase. Now better go with better speakers.

I'm glad you're please with the C315, Tetsuro. But I have to say that the few NAD models I've heard have sound too warm and, especially, too loose for my liking.

Yes it sounds a lot warm, I think it's tuned for specific speakers like KEF, PSB and the likes. I've tried with the Tannoys but the paper cones aren't really suited to it... the midrange becomes muddy and lose details. Metallic tweeters and woofers are necessity here. With them the sound is very nice (I hope, at least those Energys sound better than with the Onkyo!).

P.S.: Mine source is bright, so complement it well.

I have them, thanks for the suggestion! The Van Den Hull are warm! I'll tell you later about the differences.

It's incredible how a cable make a difference. These cable are half copper and half silver plated. Anyway I think I will change them for some more better cables (silver plated) since they are low cost cables (with this system is better this low cost than the better Van Den Hul).

Thanks Larry. Must search for every angle of Italy since every 10 Km you will find some unique 'town' (not necessarily city) that deserves a look. It's important to spend those 2 weeks 'traveling' and not to stay still in one city. Begin from north than go down to south. The richness becomes from the different dominations of various cultures and 'regents', so you will find every piece of Italy unique. 14 days 14 places to visit.
I think you will find more interesting places in small towns more than bigger cities (but if you are in search just for museums clearly the cities have an edge).

I had Crystal Cable piccolo's here for a very short moment (they will NOT be in the cable thread), but they were pretty bright sounding, so you could look into that.
I know some people that use them with tube Mcintosh amps, and they say it works perfectly with them, so they'll give a pretty neutral sound with your NAD's too...

My cousin is driving his Monitor Audio BR2's with a vintage Technics SA400, the technics is a very warm sounding receiver, and the overall sound is actually pretty good, not overly warm, but not bright neither.

Come to Switzerland mate, it's a great place!! it should contrast nicely with Italy and Spain(not that I don't like Italy or Spain, I love em both).

I put back the Tannoys, they sound good with the new bright cable (anyway I plan to change them too since one channel does not sound good as the other).

If a 45 W Technics can do it so even mine 40W NAD must do it. I will give it some good cables to play on.

you won't have any troubles driving most bookshelve speakers to a normal/loud volume, certainly since you sit pretty close to them too (at the pc...)...

I had my 50 watt Denon (PMA-700) drive big power hungry B&W 604 S3's, and it 'worked' too



It does work better with the Mcintosh integrated I now have though , Waaaaaaaaay better...

I love the throw on my Thiel CS 2.3 woofers, much faster, better bass

I don't like the throw on the 604's because they seem to be 'overpowered' pretty quickly. My Thiels have a single 8" woofer (which puts out better, lower and tighter bass than dad's 604's), and they barely extrude, even when the Mcintosh's meters hit 200 watts...

We plan on doing northern and southern Italy, if and when we get there. We may do a cruise first that starts in Barcelona, then Italy, France, Greece, Croatia and back to Barcelona. I'd rather do the 2wk trip to Italy.

It's really powerful the NAD, I hear at high volume at 1/4 volume on the audio card and 1/4 on the amplifier knob. At full power I think I will explode.

But maybe there is more than SPL when we talk about wattage requirement for speakers?
