VSX52TX optical issues

Previous message about can't get sound out of optical inputs from three dish receivers, but same optical ports work with DVD. Dish receiver has digital/pcm selected on all three dish receivers. Tried all the settings in dish receivers and Pioneer receiver many, many times.The display flashes (digital/stereo) rapidly while the optical cable is connected, regardless of which optical port on receiver, or which Dish receiver is switched to. When I hook up my VSX55TXi, the Dish receivers output perfectly to the other Pioneer receiver. It is not the VSX52TX because I returned it to the store and they gave me a new replacement. Same thing. All setting in Pioneer receiver have been checked many times. Pioneer tech support blew me off. Dish has never heard of the problem. I have nowhere to go. I can't get to any of their engineering groups. If anybody has any ideas, I could sure use them.

Does the Dish receiver have an RCA digital output?
If so try that output instead of the optical output and see if that works.

I returned the receiver to GoodGuys. There is some incompatabilty between the 52TX and the Dish receivers. Dish tech support and Pioneer tech support blew me off. My 55TXi optical outputs work fine with my satellite receivers. I have ordered a 54TX on the web for $572.00. GoodGuys wants $1000.00. Thiis new receiver has the same front panel as my 55TXi, so I am hoping it will work ok, otherwise I am out 15% restocking fee and shipping.
