We need to know: are you talking stereo or multichannel; amp or receiver?

One thing to note is that these speakers are 4 ohm; not all receivers in your price range are rated for 4 ohms, (some only for 6 ohms or even just 8 ohms). The lower the ohms of the speaker, the more current they will draw from the amplifier, and some just can't handle the extra draw.

    no,
do you want to use the speakers for surround, or stereo, if you only have 2 speakers, do you want to expand to surround later on...

a receiver is a preamp, a power amp, and a tuner, all in one 'box'
an amp is an integrated amp, or a power amp. we use it for most of the things, because it's shorter to type

anyways, check out marantz, they have good stereo and surround stuff (do note that when you don't have the intention to expand to surround later on, that it's best to buy a stereo integrated amp or a receiver)
also check out cambridge audio, nad, denon, rotel (maybe),
they are not huge speakers, so you don't need extremely much power... a good 50 watt integrated will do for sure...

    Keep them spinning,
    Bert.

    stereo or multichannel?

I would like to use my speakers from computer / tv / projector and be able to easily switch between them. - i am not sure on the difference between an amp and a reciever?

With 4ohms would you think that i would need a higher budget?

Hope this offers a little more clarification
