Yes that's the one, but remember that my amp has been totally re-tubed with a NOS front end and an 8 pack of the JJ E84L's. Even with that it's a total bargain!

Its a very good looking piece and if it does deliver the goods then 1500 bucks is not that bad seeing what some high end cost's nowadays. I really like the gloss black finish that surrounds the tubes it kind of puts them in the spotlight and it would seem like it would make them have a cool glow. I know that is not the deal here its really the sound but it is a good looking amp

You hit a major point. If it looked like a brick with tubes sticking out I would never have bought it. What is hard to see is that it's painted with automotive grade metal flake paint. The tubes all have chrome plated metal trim rings at their bases which reflect the glow from them nicely. The two knobs on the front are billet machined and rhodium plated. Even the remote is billet machined and black oxide coated. Just about everything about the build screams quality.

That really is a nice looking amp Geoffcin...the craftmanship is top notch as well. It seems they are able to do what some of the big dogs of America can do and for a lot less.

    Congrats my man.

That's were we diverge, Geoff. Although I appreciate handsome looks in a component and your Ming Da is handsome indeed, looks are irrelevant to my buying decissions.

Fine machined parts, etc., add hugely to the cost of a component. MDF is dirt cheap on the other hand. My recent Class-D-Audio amp looks like crap but likely cost me less than 1/3. As for the sound, well, let's say it is the best amp I've owned.

I agree that DIY is the most cost effective, however no manufacturer could sell an amp in cabinet like that. Never get it past the UL guys for sure! I looked at some of the metal chassis priced and you DIY guys are getting hosed on those prices for sure. No way a simple metal box costs over $100.

FWIW; I don't think your box has to look simple. For just a few bucks you could cover it with some killer wood venier. Then it would look smokin!

    ...
Yep, true: that's why I built my own, albeit of MDF.
