    Unhappy Bad idea!!!

So while trying to double bi-amp a pair of speakers, I hook up the wires wrong,,,, long story short....It appears I have blown out the right front amp in my Marantz SR-7001. I know this because it is totally melted along with some or the circuitry. My question is... is this fixable or is it a now a new door stop??? Any help would be nice. Thanks.

Sounds FUBAR'd to me. BTW, what's ya mean by "double bi-amped"?

Is this a 7.1 receiver? Could you assign the rear surrounds to replace the front channels?

    Thumbs down

I aready had my front speakers bi-amped, I was trying to add another amp on top of that. The end result, a dead receiver.

How exactly did you wire that? Hopefully, you weren't trying to combine the outputs of more than one amp to a single set of binding posts.

For future reference, I've never heard of "double bi-amping" or "adding another amp on top of that". ...and I've been playing with this stuff for over 35 years.

Thanks 'Stat, I needed a good laugh today. Someone needs to start a thread about the DON"TS with audio equipment for the noobies. I just assumed some things were obvious.

Even if you isted every "don't" in the world, some enterprising guy will discover yet another way to screw the pooch. I just gotta wonder where some of these ideas come from.

Well there is one way I can think of that roughly fits that description. If you were using a bridgeable stereo amp and bought another and switched each so that they were now running as monoblocks.

I just crashed my car. Is it worth fixing?

How are we supposed to know what components burnt up without seeing it. Take it to a service shop for an estimate and decide from there.

Speaking of half wit, how does one go about wiring for "double bi-amp"?

LOL, and make sure you hook it up to 240v so it's as bright as a supernova. For about 3 nanoseconds.

I think you said it dude - your amp is probably toast. Call Marantz, they should probably be the most helpful out of everyone. They may even be able to replace part of the amp...but you will only know if you call.

Good luck! And dont feel too bad. I brake stuff all the time in the most 'i didn't mean to brake it' kind of way.

I think we're all curious as to exactly what you did and where you got that idea.

As for the half wit replies, well, the question really kinda begs for them, It's a little late to ask for guidance or help now that the amp is a smoking, melted mass of plastic, isn't it.

Next time you get one of these brainstorms, have friends over and supply long sticks and marshmallows.
