Man it looks like your room is pretty filled with gear. Most of it looks like its before my time in this hobby but thats not a bad thing since the 70's produced some good pieces of equipment. the only truly older piece in my system is a Adcom 545 series 2 power amp from the eary 90's and a pair of highly modified Paradigm monitor 7's from the mid 90's. thats about as old as my system goes but what the hey I figured I would throw my 2 cents in the pot as well since it seems like everyone else has. Good idea for a thread though. Lots of responses.

dak, I would love if you set up a classified thread with anything you're selling right now. I know that you would give us the AR discount, right? ahhahaha...

Nice speakers!
As I understand the general practice of stacking the top speaker should be inverted in part to create more separation between the large woofers. You might want to give that a try and see if you notice a difference in SQ.
-
I have more speakers and stuff but I just took a picture of only the brown color cabinets! I would have even more but I am limited on space home so.
-
Thanks again, some of this gear is almost as old as me. The mcintosh preamp mx-110 is from 1965, tubes. The last tube preamp mcintosh made. The amp, a mcintosh 2505, is the first ss amps that they made, designed to sound like tubes. The 2nd system also mcintosh a mx-115 preamp of which there were less than 1,100 made. powered by a mcintosh mc-250, a no frills version of the 2505. All hooked to old Altec speakers, that have been rebuilt. Too bad they dont build stuff like this anymore.

Vintage
My only vintage piece is in my bedroom, a pioneer SA-7500II, running four energy take classics. 2 of them splitting power from each A channel, and speaker wires running from B channels to send signal to the take classic 8" sub. Pioneer DVD player with USB as the source. Sounds surprisingly good, great really.

Heck the only modern unit I have is a cd/dvd player, a Philips 951-something or the other.
I have to admit, I'd sure like a remote on the pre, and a good quality cd player, maybe tubed like Justlisten2s'. Other than that, I like my sound.
Anyone?
Pete
Well done mate. I use a hafler DH200 had if for 30 years now. Not found anything of a realistic price to make me want to change.
I use a hafler xl280 with a hafler 101 pre for my second system.
I guess most of my system is a relic then
Turntable is a Systemdek 4 with a rega 250 (technoweight) and a decca gold/silver/C4e (depends on how i feel) cartridges.
Audio research SP9 must be a relic now.
CD is a Meridian 506 20 bit but the second system has a Meridian 206.
Speakers main are Art Impressions and for second system a pair of Systym 931

Pete, it has been a couple years, had any good Canadian beer since we were last in Detroit?

Rock’s Vintage Collection
Hello to all:
I have not updated my vintage collection in some time now. I must admit, ever since Chris took down his Monster Receiver website some time ago I have lost contact with him and interest. I finally ran out of room in living room and my wife complained that I took over the entire wall. Consequently, I started to hide some of equipment in our office closet. Unfortunately, we ran out of room for our clothing and I will be trading or selling equipmnet real quick to make room for our clothing.I find myself going through all the equipment I did not remember I had.
I have three sets of the HITACHI 7150s and a bunch of great Mitsubishi Separates I plan to go through and trade or sell some day.
Recently I refurbished my Sansui 9090 and hooked it up to a set of Infinity Kappa 7 Speakers I refurbished. The Sansui 9090 & Infinity Kappa 7 Speakers combination sounds awesome. I replaced the Kappa 7 Speakers surrounds and the Midrange speakers with Dalton Midrange speakers at the recommendation of one of our subscribers and they really sound better that the originals. The Kapp 7s sound great with the Infinity RSB iii and my Klipch 5.5 towers. I try to use my equipmnet in the living room as much as possible. I also try to use the equimnet I have in storage to maintain it in good running conditon, but I do not like move it too often becasue it is hard to tranfer from room to anaother. One problem I have is switching the speaker wires. My nex t plan is to connect each unit to a set of Boston Acoutic 1010 Speakers in the office. I find it very time consuming to re-run the wires behind the living room wall unit becasue I have limited space to work with.
I also sold a few receivers during the past few years, and added an SAE 2 R98 receiver my sister gave me with the original SAE 2 the cassette tape. The only problem is that the SAE 2 casstte needs a belt. (I think). I also added the ADCOM GFA 6000 5.1 and the ADCOM GFA 545 II to my separate collection.
I am also keeping my collection of Toshiba 7150s Intact. other than my Concept 16.5, when I look inside the Toshiba 7150, I am amazed with the quality craftsmanship they used to use. Each Toshiba 7150 wire bundle is individually tied by hand, the same way we used to do in aviation many years ago before tie wraps were invented. The components are also top quality. the Toshiba 7150 receiver is one of the Audio World's best-kept secrets. One of my other vintage receivers is my HITACHI 2004 G rated receiver. I t sound great whwn I hook it up to any speakers I own. I prefer to use my SAE separates and my Marantz 2325 along with my SANSUI receivers.
Bellow is a summary of some of the vintage equipment I have left.

The Marantz and Sansui receivers are my favorite!
Good stuff man! I bet everything is in mint condition! You can post some pictures to see how you have organized the gears!

Wow Elbravo, You've got some serious stuff...... So, you rotate your equipment, or are you a collector??
Best Regards,

I just sold a David Hafler 110 pre-amp this weekend (for someone else, wasn't mine) but I personally never attached an amp or speakers to it to see how it did -- what does anybody else think about the DH 110?
-
I keep a DH-110 in a closet as a spare in case my ARC SP-9 gets sick. The couple of times my ARC was at the factory getting tuned up or upgraded the Hafler served very well in its place.
I built the Hafler from a kit in the early 80's. It's a nice very quiet preamp. I think it sounds better than most of the ones from Adcom. Plus, it has 2 tape monitors, 2 phono inputs, EPL loop and defeatable tone controls.
Very underrated IMO.

Just wondering if there is any interest on this forum on equipment manufactured by Weathers Industries of New Jersey. I'm a former employee, now an old man!

Welcome to AR!
Not familiar with it.
Can you give us a brief history of the company and products?
-
Weathers Industries was a small hi-fi company that invented and manufactured an assortment of highly regarded components. The company was founded by Paul Weathers, a fine gentleman who was a very accomplished inventor AND businessman. His first product, in the early fifties, was an FM capacitance cartridge system, that came with a lightweight wood tonearm and oscillator box. Mono, of course. Performance was outstanding, finest at the time. It's main advantage was that it tracked at 1 gram! Competitors at the time tracked around 10 grams. No hum pickup from turntable motor. I still have my system, purchased in the mid-fifties. He then went into speakers and turntables.
I don't want to make this too long, but if there is any interest in further information, I will provide what I remember. As I was in my early twenties at the time, I don't believe there are many former employees left. I was the service department, repairs, phone calls, letters and handling customers that would come to the factory.
PS: Thanx for welcome!
-
I have never heard of this company but you can post some pictures here so everyone can see it!

Layers...
Here's the old stuff (operational definition of vintage: anything before 1990) I've accumulated over the years:
Pioneer RT701 Open Reel
Concord DB10 Dolby B processor
Kenwood KD550 Turntable
SME Series IIIS tonearm
Shure V15 Type V-MR cartridge
Pioneer RG-2 dynamic expansion processor
Mitsubishi DAF-20 FM Tuner
...all of the above hooked up to a...
Hafler DH110 preamp
(...feeding into a HK AVR635 and a pair of Maggies MMG)
My Dynaco SCA80 integated amp, Lafayette Criterion 2XB speakers, and Magnavox CDB582 CD player still works and seeing use in my daughter's room.
The Dynaco Stereo 80 amp I built still works too and is used to drive a pair of Radio Shack Minimus 7s for desktop PC use.
The AudioControl C101 used to see action, but with the Texas Instruments DSP chip in the HK AVR635 working its magic for room acoustics, it's mothballed. Two AudioControl Octave EQs are used to equalize 4 of the 5.1 signals from the DVD-A/SACD player, before it goes into the AVR635. (All the EQs were sent over to AudioControl for cleaning and recalibration.)

Dak
Not alot out there on the web but some things I saw indicate this might have been part of a rack system. I saw a photo of one on E-Bay and it lists a 170 watts on the back label so a good rule of thumb is to take that number and divide by 3 to figure what the WPC it produces. In this case my guess is that it probably produces 50-55wpc.
Looks like a nice little piece-it is always hard to walk away from that shiny silver.......Congrats!
-
I saw an eBay listing that said the Fisher produces 46 watts into 4 Ohms at 0.3% THD. I don't know why they chose 4 Ohms, or for that matter, 0.3% for this measurement, but that's what I saw.

I have two vintage systems, 1975 and 1978, a vintage CD and a vintage CD/ Casstte DECK. I just pulled the GA312 from the attic last month. It seems to be in good working order. The GA312 and the Sharp DX-650 CDP are only components I'm using now. But I'm thinking about hooking up the Realistic Optimus 2B to the "B" side of my new Yamaha RX-797 Receiver and comparing them to my Klipsch RF-7. All the rest except the Realistic Optimus 2B are misbehaven.
Using now
