Technics Vintage?

    Technics Vintage?
    Well I've seen it posted around that nothing after 1980 is considered vintage.
    Well I kinda consider this Vintage......try to find one now!

    My first "Upper End" reciever.
    Good for a laugh eh?
    Love to pick one up in super condition just for memories.

    I'm one of those who consider post-1980 to be post-vintage although there as a lot of good, very attractive equipment build in the '80s, '90s, and up to the current day of course.

    The Vintage Techinics site says that the SA-R430 is a 1988 model. It looks it I must say. That was the interval during which mainstream marketers really when over the top with luminesent dispays, equalizers, and the like.

    A vintage site that sort of specializes in '80s equipment is The Vintage Knob; have a look there's some gorgeous stuff there.

    But then again Technology 6 months old is considered outdated it seems.

    Talk about impressive.....I'm guessing here but IIRC it was around 1993/95 I remember DROOLING over this SA-TX50.....at $1000.
    We had 2 lil Boys at the time and it was waaaaay outta my $$ reach.
    But it was the cat's butt at the time and that was the last I saw of Technics.

    I don't think a piece can be vintage unless it has one of those large lit up analog read outs across the front for tuner frequency :)

    Technics has always been entry level, it would be interesting to see what they offered for $1k.

    From what I remember they were Panasonics Elite end.
    It was something MOST people could afford at the time and weren't really a bad unit.
    Down side is they didn't hold up the best.....usually after 5 years or so they kicked the bucket.
    In their price range they were the nicest readily available.
    Many of the better name stuff was either VERY expensive or you had to special order it.

    I've got some Technics gear in the stable, including the SA-GX910, which was a $1000 receiver in 1991-92. It has DSP and parametric EQ. It's anchoring the garage sound system, along with a Technics CD changer and Technics dual cassette--the only player I have left for my few remaining tapes.

    I have two other Technics receivers, a high end CD player, and a turntable. This gear continues to work regardless of age, though it sees infrequent use at this point.
