Techics SU-7600 "Sweet"

I recently pulled out my 1970's Technics SU-7600 integrated amp to use with my monitor audio S1 speakers. Its 41wpc and prbably puts out almost twice that rating. I've forgotten how good this amp was. I also have an early 1980s Yamaha A-400 40wpc amp and compared the 2. The Yammy sounds awful.

The Technics is warm, detailed with great high frequency sound. It weighs a ton for a 40wpc amp. They dont make them like this any more. I paid $175 for it back in 1978 and it listed at $225. I hope it never breaks down.

I have a Sansui AU 6900 intergrated not being used right now but hope to put together a Vintage system one day. It is a sweet amp also. I think it's around 40wpc also.

Years back I was running a Pioneer SA 8100 as my main unit powering some horn loaded Wharfdales, I wish I never sold that system.

Anyway, enjoy the retro sound.:cornut:

I ran Altec Lansing speakers, 2 ways with 8" woofer and JVC direct drive TT with a Sure V series cartrige and a Sanyo tape deck. Great sounding speakers for the price. Also still have my vintage Hitachi Tuner. I was a poor college student back then.

Hello does anyone know anything about Technics SU-Z980 Integrated amp,How much power a channel year made.It looks just like SU-V98 integrated amp Thanks Carl59

Some of this old equipment sounds very nice in non-critical applications. I have a nice Marantz 1070 amp I bought on eBay a few months ago; a bargain at what I paid (less than $80?).

Hang on to the Technics if you've got the space. You would like get <$100 selling it on eBay.

I have no intentions of selling it. Its very nostalgic and brings back alot of memories from college and when I was dating my wife. Besides, it still sounds great and better than alot of new amps I have heard. It has this very nice warm sound.

The SU-Z980 is a 120w intergrated with digital volume control and with digital power meters and inputs for VCR, TV, Tape, CD, Tuner and Phono. Its a 1980's model.

It also has pre out and main in. I believe its a Class A amp.

The Technics "New Class A" or "Class AA" technologies aren't true Class A. I like an explanation of how they work sometime, I quite sure they are Class A as the term is generally used. I found this diyAudio Forums thread on the subject.
