Problem with RCA LAB 1200

Hello all,

I have an RCA LAB 1200 which I've been using on and off for a couple of years. It does a decent job, but has developed a problem of late. When I press Play, the platter will rotate, the stylus will lift and drop onto the LP for a second, and then it lifts up and goes back to the off position. Sometimes it works if I keep trying, but most times it doesn't. Any idea what's causing this?

Can't afford to buy a really good player right now, and I don't want to invest in another cheap player if I can keep this one going for a few more months.
