    Pioneer Power Amp

I just purchased a M-90, and can't find much about it, other than it was released
in 86/87, was there flagship amp at the time, is 200wpc at 8ohms, and weighs
50lbs. I'm guessing it cranks big time, and hopefully will be a good addition to my
vintage speakers. The rotel I use seems a bit bright, and wanted something with
more crunch, I guess you could put it. Anyone ever heard this, either it was very
popular, or junk. Thanks in advance.

Nice purchase. The Pioneer Elite components in general are a cut above your typical mass-market electronics so the amp is not junk. You have an Elite DVD-A/SACD player so you should know that. As long as you like the way the amp sounds in your system, that is what matters.

LikeitLoud, great find looks to be in nice condition. I just happen to have a issue of Stereo Review that had a multipage advertisement from Pioneer for their Elite/Reference series, which had the M-90. This issue also was the annual buyer guide, here what that said: Feautures CD direct input with volume control, low-imp driving capability, independent L/R construction, copper-plated chassis, Type-II circuit, 200 W/ch from 5-50,000 Hz into 8 ohms with no more than 0.003% THD, dynamic power 300 W at 8 ohms, 550 at 4 ohms. The advertisement went into more detail if you need more info.

It sounds really good except when I use dts format, it changes the 5.1 sound in mono sound.

I got my hands on this finally, and was amazed by how clean it was, It was this guys
dads, and was in a box with old army uniforms stacked on top. Pretty good storage.
It has'nt been powered up for over 7 years, so it's on the floor with the power on
and everything did light up. It's going to this shop I know for bench testing today,
before it's REALLY tested by me. I gave the guy $150, and he's searching for the
matching pre-amp, so that will take care of my vintage 2ch system. It should be
a perfect match to the HPM 100's/JBL's I use. I guess these were rare, the repair
shop said they can't wait to see this thing, and offered $850, and havn't even seen
it yet, wtf, I'll hold all reviews until some vintage van halen is blaring out the speakers.
How thats gonna sound is all that matters. Thanks for all the input. By saturday,
we'll see what we really have. Later

    Check out...

    ...this site:

    http://www.elitestereo.netfirms.com/m90.htm

There are a number of vintage gear sites...trouble is you have to use key words when searching if you don't just want to wind up at an ebay sale...I Googled "vintage silver pioneer" for this site:

    http://www.visi.com/~jweeks/stuff/pioneer

    that linked to the above...

Hello, I'm a misanthrope...don't ask me why, just take a good look around.

"Men would rather believe than know" -Sociobiology: The New Synthesis by Edward O. Wilson

"The great masses of the people...will more easily fall victims to a great lie than to a small one" -Adolph Hitler

"We are never deceived, we deceive ourselves" -Goethe

If you repeat a lie often enough, some will believe it to be the truth...

I did just that, thanks for the research. I never knew the elite series was so old. Pretty
good history. Man, vintage amps really put out the power. Pioneer had one a year
later with 350wpc in unbridged, 2ch mode. Sheesh. Thanks again.
