HELP needed with Teac X-1000R

I have this same issue with my X-1000R also. On my deck, if I press the pause button first it seems to engage the rollers and then when I press play it plays just fine. On auto-reverse, however, the reverse function engages, but then the tape stops. I believe it has something to do with tension. I'm not sure if a belt is used to work this function that may need to be changed. Fortunately Teac still is in existence and many parts for the 1000 and 2000 models are still available. I also have a good RTR tech in my area but I'm going to have him work on my Dokorder 1120 first and then bring in the Teac.
