    Old school turntable help needed

Recently purchased an old Kenwood direct drive turntable to spin some old vinyl. When connecting it to my Yamaha system it doesn't play. Do I need to put a pre-amp between the turntable and the amplifier? Any other suggestions... Thx!

Welcome to AudioReview. If the Yamaha system does not have inputs marked phono or phono on the source switch you will need a phono preamp. When the turntable is hooked up if you turn the volume up can you hear anything at all? What kind of cartridge is mounted in the tonearm?
