portable stereo quality battery powered speakers

My old portable stereo had good sound quality and could take a few D size batteries and become portable when i went camping with mates.

I have an archos 605 now and want a decent battery powered speaker system of similar quality to a portable stereo. Most of the decent portable speakers I have seen seem only to have an ipod dock.

All the other portable speakers are far too small and tinny. Size does not matter, just that they need to be battery powered and not ipodcentric.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this set of requirements?

    Thanks

have no suggestions for your requirements (but it appears that no one else does either) so how about a suggestion for another portable stereo system? I use the first generation sonic impact t-amp (battery powered) with a pair of best buy's easy-to-drive insignia speakers. An i-pod or portable cd player can be connected to the t-amp. I use a portable cdp. Although it's a little bulky because of the size of the speakers, the system is battery powered so it can go almost anywhere. I use this system outside at home. I've taken it to the beach and used it for tailgating at ball games and other events. The current t-amp is second generation:

The Insignias used to go on sale sometimes for as little as $35 a pair (I got mine on sale last summer. The regular price appears to be a little higher now.):

dean, weren't those things down to $30 a while back? Ether way, great deal when they get cheap. Don't bother at the current asking price though.

The t-amp is pretty decent as well.
