Shag, I wouldn't encourage him to buy from the US, let alone floorstanders, shipping will be way to much, plus it's always a risk and time consuming.
Tetsuro, check on ebay italia and look at 2nd hand speakers, I think there are a lot. Also, 475 euros is worth much more than 475$. What is your budget in euros? If it's under 400 euros and you want new, I'd recommend Kef iQ3's, Monitor Audio BR2's or some similar priced focals. There are others too. Either that or check out ebay italia (ebay.it?) Do invest in speaker stands though, you're not doing justice to them but setting them on a desk.

I found some Kef XQ-1's for about 600$ instead of I think 2.5Grand on ebay UK about 2 weeks ago. They do look nice.
I think Triangle's are around 500euros.

Yes I'm thinking on MA and Focal. KEF is out because their cabinets are too deep.
I'm more towards MA, mmhhh.
P.S.: Current Tannoys are good, maybe I could postpone the change.

Deep cabinets are great:) speakers that are shallow are ugly to me. Except planars and stats which I find gorgeous most of the time.
The iQ1's aren't too deep.
Oh well, i'm off to the local audio shop:D

Max 30 cm deep, cannot go over. :D

Tetsuro, I find it strange that you can't find Triangle speakers since they are made in France. I even found a review in Italian. They are not that common of a speaker around here. They are a very detailed and excellent speaker. Imaging is excellent. My friends triangle towers blow away my Magnepan's in clarity, and detail. Midrange and treble are uncanny and very life like. They sound better than every KEF I have ever heard.
-
I believe the cheapest triangle standmount is around 500euros which would be above budget.
PS: Kef iQ3's are only 33cm deep.
-
Triangle cannot find anywhere. :(
33 cm is off for me Stephen... must stay on the 30 cm.
