    um

    try them?

if it's only the dustcover that's missing, they should still be able to work, unless there are other problems too...
but do place new dustcovers when the speakers still work, and are worth repairing...

    Keep them spinning,
    Bert.

hook them up to an amplifier, and a source, and play some music through them, then hear if they sound ok & still work properly?

what else do you do with speakers?

There's a way to test without taking a chance of "blowing" your amp from a shorted speaker. Take a 1.5V AA battery and touch the speaker's wires to its + and - terminals momentarily. You should hear a "tick" if the speaker is functioning well enough to connect to your amp/receiver.

    That's always been my approach.

I find it amazing whenever I see an ebay or agon ad where the seller says "don't know if it works". Why don't you know if it works? You're selling audio gear and - you don't have a working system?
