Wow many of those are beautiful. The fit and finish are superb of the ones I checked out. I would be pleased to have any of those in my home. Thanks for the link.

frenchmon, you might surprise yourself
I'm a DIY novice and many of those builds are beyond my abilities. What helped me get started in DIY was taking a Saturday course at a local wood craft store in kitchen cabinet building. The basic construction of a kitchen cabinet box is much the same as building a speaker enclosure. Making straight cuts of plywood with a skill saw and homemade guide, joining squared cabinet sides together with a Kreg pocket hole jig, screws and glue were all covered in that basic one day course.
When I hear folks say that buying the necessary tools would be too expensive that is just not true. Many already have most of the basic tools on hand such as a jig saw and skill saw. I taught myself to use a router by watching youtube. A router is needed for cutting round driver openings but I started out with just a cheap jig saw which will suffice. I paid less than $100 for my Sear's router.
For those that don't want to try DIY I'd suggest getting the plans for what you want to build and taking them to a local cabinet shop. Buying and installing the drivers and pre-assembled XO if any, is the easy part. One could save hundreds. To get the same performance in a commercial build you can expect to add another zero to the price. Then again commercial options for unique DIY builds are not available at any price.
With the advent of inexpensive home computer programs that use the Thiele small parameters to determine enclosure/driver compatibility DIY speaker building has really taken off in the last 10 years. With DIY you can afford better drivers than you could ever hope for in commercial builds and better drivers make all the difference.
