Subwoofer to match with my psb b5

Hey guys! ive been doing a little sub hunting. i am about to decide. the
one thats convincing me is this martin logan dynamo 300, specially because i´ts on sale, and i thing its a great deal for 130 bucks.
i want the sub to use it with my PSB B5´s and make it a more powerful system. right now im just using the B5´s with my onkyo NR609 and a stanton turntable (im getting a phono pre-amp)
so... the thing is, im not sure if this sub is the right way to go. I´ve been looking at some others but definitely not for the price of this Martin Logan.
for example, i was looking at the Energy ESW-C8, but it is around 330 bucks, and im not sure if its worth paying double to get this one??
anyway, ill appreciate any comments and/or recommendations you guys might have.

I used to own the Velodyne VX-10 and it was a great sub. I had no complaints about the sound quality or performance of the VX-10. That model has been upgraded to the VX-11. The reviews for VX-11 are overwhelmingly positive so be sure to give the reviews a read.

Never heard either one of them but between the two I'd go with the ML. For 130 bucks i don't think you can go wrong. The question you have to ask yourself is if it's going to have enough output for you room, your listening tastes and volume, etc...if so then I say go for it.

What is your budget? The ML 300 Dynamo does not compare well to the higher model Dynamo's. But for $130 it sounds like a good deal. You may want to give this one a look-

I picked up an Original ML Dynamo for $300 in perfect condition. It sold for $700.

well since i saw the 130 deal my budget was pretty much 130. but now that you say that i can get a great deal on a used one i might end up spending some more money to get a better quality sub.
it all depends on what i can find, and if its worth it i dont mind spending a little more, i really want to make the best sound possible on a reasonable budget.
so far the B5´s i got last year have not let me down, they give a great sound and the sub im using its OK for now. after i get the sub, i want to get a pair of B6´s, to make them my fronts and the B5´s rears. i saw on saturday audio some bstock PSB products which seem to be good deals.
im really excited about my audio system, and for being new to all this, i think im building a very descent one.

i appreciate your comments and suggestions!!

limonv, I bought a pair of the B-Stock PSB B6's for my son from Saturday Audio. I can't tell why they were B-Stock. They are a great sounding speaker. We run them with an old Velodyne CHT-8 sub which really is not needed as the B6's put out some nice bass.

Here's some nice subs from audiogon

Here is a great price on an Original Dynamo 10" on Ebay. The original dynamo is better than the current dynamo's as they use a better amp. It is non ported and has nice tight musical bass. Of the current new Dynamo's only the 700 and above models are non ported. The grill on this sub is missing which is no big deal because the sub is really a down firing sub and you don't need the grill. The sub an be used as a front firing sub as well, thats where the grill comes into play-

Thanks blackraven, I will check all of them out. I remember you mentioning that you bought the B6 on saturdayaudio. I'm just waiting to get some more money so I can buy them as we'll, since the money I have right now is going to the sub. I want to get as we'll a center channel speaker, but I need even more money for it... Since I'm getting the B6's, the idea of making it a system with only PSB's (except the sub) sounds great, and for what I have experienced with my B5's, and what I've read about the brand, it seems to be a smart way to go. Also because I don't have the time to go out there trying different speakers, and now I am familiar with PSB and probably going with them!!
Really excited about it actually haha... Thanks again for the recommendations blackraven!!

hey guys! well ive been researching the options you mentioned, and found really good reviews on the BIC America F12, which is on amazon for $200, and i wouldnt mind spending an extra 70 (in comparison with the ML) if it will really make a difference. then there´s the VX-11 that Leroy recommended, which is also under 200 (170 o vanns.com). I remind you guys that i am no specialist on the subject, i just love listening to music, i enjoy it so much, but i wouldnt know which one will be best fitted for what i am looking for.
honestly, the ML deal for $130 is really hard to ignore haha... but as i mentioned above, i wouldnt mind spending a bit more, but still keeping it in a tight budget, if a real difference can be noticed.
i just dont want to be getting it for the wrong reasons... has anyone here tried any of them before? ML its a 75Watt sub, i will use it for music (which is the main purpose) with my NR609 and my B5´s, and also for movies. do you guys think it will fit right? i mean the setup its so easy, but performance wise and with my onkyo and PSB´s.
on the other hand is the BIC F12 and the VX-11 which are bigger more powerful subs...
what do you guys honestly think? which of these 3 would make the better match with my NR609 and B5´s?

i really appreciate your help guys, and sorry if my english is not very good, its not my native language =)

The issue is not the power of the sub, it is what is the the size of your room. I use to use a Velodyne CHT-8 with 130watts and 350 peak in a 17x17 room and it did a great job.

The only thing that I have to say about the more expensive subs, especially the used ones that I posted are that they will have more satisfying bass. It will be deeper, tighter, more musical and faster with less muddiness and boom. My current Original Dynamo sub blows the CHT-8 out of the water. The Velodyne sounds slow, boomy and much less musical. I am afraid that you will run into that situation.

thanks blackraven. the size of my room is 6.5x6 METERS, so its around 20x20 feet, so what do you think? can one of these do it well? or should i definitely consider the ones you recommended? for example de original Dynamo??

    thanks again!

The Original dynamo will do just fine in that size room. I can't comment on the BIC as I have never heard one. The Dynamo 300 will be pushing it. If your plan is to get the best sound possible then I would spend a little more money and not compromise too much because you will be unhappy in the long run.

I would suggest the dayton audio sub-1200.

    Dayton Audio SUB-1200 12" 120 Watt Powered Subwoofer 300-629

Granted, I am an audio newbie, but I have heard these and love them, plan on getting them once I sell my xbox 360. They also have great ratings everywhere I can find reviews for them. I can't speak for "higher end" speakers, but imo these could be the best I've demo'd in stores $300 or less

There are also 8" and 10" versions that also review well.

What is your upper limit budget. SVS makes two subs, PB1000 which has a 10" driver in a ported box cable of of 19Hz or the SB1000, a 12" sealed unit for the same price as the PB1000. They are cost $499 and would out perform te other option listed so far.
