Newbie needs help with sub ....

Hi. I'm new to hifi and found this site invaluable for guidance in buying my first separates - Marantz CD5400, ST57 tuner and PM4000 amp with bi-wired Mordaunt Short Avant 904i speakers with reasonable connects and cables. I'm just waiting delivery of a Pioneer PL-512 deck. So far I'm delighted with the sound.

The problem is that I also bought a Mission 70 ASE sub and when I try to connect it with speaker cable to the amp there is either no sound or a horrible crackling sound. I'm pretty sure the sub isn't defective...

I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Does the PM4000 have two sets of speaker connections, A/B? Any preamp outputs? I looked at the 70 ase and didn't see anything that should present a problem.

The amp has 2 sets of speaker connections - I connected one set to my speakers and one set to the sub. The amp has no preamp or sub connections. Attachment 9139 he sub has 1 set of speaker connections. Ive attached images...

It sounds like you have a bad sub.
