    Need Suggestions for setup.

My fraternity house is need of new speaker system for our basement. Our basement dance floor area is about 20x20. Our current speakers are four EV 8ohms 200 watt sx100+'s seen here

    Used*Electro-Voice SX100+ Passive Loudspeaker | Musician's Friend

they are great speakers, but are very old. One blew out last year, and I have a feeling another is about to blow. I looked up the recone price, and I think it's going to be around 100 bucks. What should we do? Re cone / trade in / get a whole new setup? Not sure about the budget yet, but we wouldnt like spending more than 300 bucks. We are currently running from a QSc pro amp 2450 seen here

    Gnar, welcome to AR.

I am thinking that there may not be too many here with 1st hand experience with your gear or setup.
Give it a day or so because there are those that post from different time zones and availability.

I would consider getting a pair or 4 of any of these BIC and Cerwin Vega Speakers

    BIC RtR 1530 15" 3-Way Tower Speaker 303-422

    BIC RtR-EV15 15" Biampable Floor Speaker 303-468

    Parts Express

VE 8F CERWIN VEGA HOME AUDIO SPEAKERS

    BIC Formula FH8-W 8" 2-Way In-Wall Speaker Pair 303-446

BIC America - Top Rated Since 1973

Both these brands are party speakers and will play loud with plenty of bass and they can take abuse.

Thanks a ton guys. May have more questions tomorrow. Blackraven - I also happen to be from the St. Paul area, but I go to school in Wisconsin. Any other good stores around the area - my dad has recommended midwestspeaker.com

Being a high end audio guy for years I also installed and tuned pro sound systems for live audio events and dance clubs back in the day so I know a little about it. Looking at your setup I'm guessing you use this system for parties and DJ stuff right? If I am wrong I apologize but with a mixer and pro sound amp with PA speakers this would be the type of system for that. Looking at what you have I would say I would either look at fixing the speakers you have which would not be a bad idea if they are in good shape other than the re coning needs of the woofer but I would also visit the music instrument stores in the area and online and see what they have specials on or what they have at what price. There are many options out there and to be honest my opinion is if you use this system for this purpose I would stick to PA speakers and pro sound gear since ruggedness is what they are built for and they will handle the higher spl dance and party music better than typical home speakers, even bigger ones. And PA speakers offer better field replaceable parts and drivers so if you blow something you can replace it a whole lot easier than with a typical home speakers. Just my opinion

Thanks for the awesome feedback guys. I also noticed when looking the ceiling that the two wires are connected to a metal rod type thing that holds the speaker in place/sends the speaker wire through. What exactly are those called/are they a must for ceiling speakers?
