    What are my options?

Okay so I have about $300 to spend for sound after splurging on a huge TV. I want it to last a bit before I spend more on sound but this is all I have at the moment.

I'm looking at a refurb Onkyo TX-SR304 for about $120 and leaving me with $180 for 5.1 speakers.
Or I could get a TX-SR505 for $160 leaving me with $140 for speakers.

OR should I scrap all that and just pick up a HTiB such as the Logitech Z-5500 or Onkyo HT-S4100?

Thanks for the help and I'm not looking for anything future-proof.

You should probably go with your option 3 until you have enough money to buy real gear.

I would go with the Onkyo HT-S4100. I think in the price range you're looking at, you'll get more bang for your buck, buying an all in one. Plus it'll be easier to set up.

You could get a 5.1 receiver on craigslist for $30 and spend $270 on speakers. 5.1 receivers are seriously that cheap sometimes. I sold a 70-watt Denon for $60, yesterday. I think I paid $75 for it.

If you're looking for a set of 5.1, you'll have to go the craigslist route as 02 suggested. I don't know of any 5.1 sets new <$200.
If your looking for a pair of speakers for <$200, I would suggest the Energy C-200's:
    http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ENC200
    or the Wharfedale 8.2's:

Here's a set from the "Speaker Company" (not real familiar with them, but have had favorable reviews from other forums) for $242.00

Here is the Energy Take 5 Classic (a little nicer than the take 5) for $199, but , you'll need a sub.:

If you can squeeze out an extra $77 + shipping, here is a sub that would work great with those speakers:

Consider the Energy Take system and these Wharfedale 9.0's http://www.buy.com/prod/harman-infin...204049696.html

I would also consider the infinity primus 152's. They got a good review in stereophile magazine. I bought the 160's for my daughter and they are a decent speaker for the money.

And this infinity center channel http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...al_5_1_4_.html

Then buy an inexpensive sub. http://www.fadfusion.com/selection.p...er=20160800117

You should strongly consider going 3.1ch and and buy better speakers or receiver. Then buy the rear channels later when you have more money!

This is my first ever review of a product, but I am so happy with it I had to write one.I truly admire it. We host regular movie nights at our house and it's absolutely wonderful for that. I got this from https://www.onkyousa.com/ through https://www.dealmecoupon.com/onkyo-usa-promo-codes.

When you provide extemporary services to a customer, they are most likely to come back and build a long term business relationship.
